Outside of the politicization of this, I think there are some practical reasons - if you have e.g. Section 8 housing in the suburbs, the presumably lower-income people will be forced to drive everywhere, forced to own a car, etc. Social services aren't usually located nearby either.

Suburbs were never designed for mass transit, it simply isn't cost effective. Whether that is a good or bad thing is a separate issue, but practically speaking it is a more expensive lifestyle (in some ways), so it doesn't make sense to repopulate it with poor people who will then face additional economic hardships.

Cities have gotten expensive largely due to liberal failure to build and overreaching zoning and building codes in the biggest cities, and then the (almost always Democrat) city governments then turn around and demand developers provide "low income" housing by basically extorting the developers. Of course the rest of the middle-income people end up subsidizing the cost because there is no 'their money', it's all our money.

The solution would have been to just allow more construction and an easier residential permit process to begin with. Older housing naturally drops in price given sufficient supply of newer housing stock. Instead all of the blame is placed on 'greedy developers' and 'gentrification' which are naturally associated with a particular skin color (I'll let you guess which).

Yep! My sister-in-law lives in a nice suburb about an hour outside of Chicago. I was wondering if she would change her anti-gun stance once she had to experience crime closer to her neighborhood. It's easy to virtue signal until it shows up on your doorstep!

When your neighborhood gets taken over by illegals in less than 5 years, suddenly there are 300 broken down cars on the street / yards, and gunshots all night long. Don't forget the 1 million metric tons of garbage literally everywhere. Blowing down the street like tumbleweeds and overflowing out of the trash cans that they never pull in off the curb. Now I'm stuck in the mexican ghettos until covid is over. I know we're building a wall, but sanctuary cities HAVE to be busted.

That is some wild shit where the duck do these people come from? I imagine every time they see a black person they are like Brendon Fraser in blast from the past.

Do they actually think black people are different from white people? Or race actually dictates everything about a person?

2
krzyzowiec 2 points ago +2 / -0

Are you serious? I can’t even imagine that. How dumb must they think black people are to believe they can’t go to the DMV on their own.... (hell, blacks run the DMV where I live)

How does it escape them that they are saying black people are inferior? It’s so weird... and yet it makes sense. They see racism everywhere because they are projecting their own racist beliefs into the world so that they don’t have to come to terms with them.

It’s like what villagers used to do when they would “cast out demons” into a goat and then sacrifice it to supposedly purge themselves of the evil spirits.

You attack this symbol to avoid having to acknowledge your own problems.

This was also a move to stop the Obama/Democrat redistricting bullshit. They want to plant low income housing everywhere so they can import more refugees and get more Illhan Bromar's in government.

Where else are the fresh-off-the-boat clueless refugees going to live? They will take the free housing and take the free government and continue to vote for those that give it to them, like it's their god given right to make slaves of Americans.

No more of that shit, thanks.

32
I_Love_45-70_Gov 32 points ago +32 / -0

Dan Bongino has covered their true intentions numerous times on his podcasts.

The main reason was to flood the suburban (red) districts with democrat voters. That way the communists who were certain to win by wide margins in the inner-city races/districts would now be able to win in suburban districts that generally have closer margins. So now those 51% to 49% Republican wins would flip to become 51% to 49% Democrat wins.

The communists claim discrimination, but it is simply a way to circumvent pre-existing districting/gerrymandering, etc, and win more local races.

We have low income housing too, it’s called the trailer parks.

26
quodvox 26 points ago +26 / -0

Funny how there is a stereotype of trailer parks being populated mainly by poor White people.

Strangely, the Left is rather silent on sponsoring efforts to help get poor White families out of poverty and give them opportunities, prioritize their education or job applications. Aren't they as deserving as anyone else?

I've always held that a poor rural White kid is just as disadvantaged as a poor Black kid from the inner city. You can't tell me that Sasha and Malia Obama are somehow in need of more assistance than some rural West Virginia kid in a dead-end coal mining town. (The main industry of said town being under attack by Liberals who fail to consider the collateral damage [or don't care] )

Note: I'm a proponent of getting us off of coal. But the way to do that isn't just taking away peoples' livelihoods with a rubber stamp. "Learn to code" isn't super useful to probably 95% of coal miners anymore than it is to laid-off journalists. Coal phase-out should be, needs to be accompanied by manufacturing incentives for companies to relocate to those areas and provide jobs and a transition path out of mining. With all of the tax dollars being spread around, I'm sure we can spare some to keep people employed and get them into a healthier (for them) profession.

6
LastconservativeNY 6 points ago +6 / -0

And in those regions dependent upon coal for their livelihoods, we must bring back manufacturing. As you said, cola miners aren't going to learn to code. They can, however, be retrained to do other jobs, like factory work.

It is critical that Trump re-shore manufacturing of all kinds. Didn't Maine used to be the shoe capital of the country? Bring it back! How about all the pharmaceuticals that need to leave ChYna and be made here? Build factories in places where people need work! NOT Amazon in NYC.

3
LesboPregnancyScare 3 points ago +3 / -0

maybe if we didnt remove tariffs on goods coming in from outside the country it would incentivize companies to bring back manufacturing jobs to the US. Those same countries that enjoy tariff free goods sold here do not extend the US the same courtesy.

5
Wheredidiputit 5 points ago +5 / -0

learn to code isnt useful for anyone.

I been doing this shit since i was 10. let me tell you. without the b.s. or higher AND connections you SOL getting any job. nobody will even ask what you know or look at a portfolio without one or both of those. You could be gods gift to earth and they'd refuse to look at you.

if i cant get that job, no chance in hell a coal miner who just started a week ago can. theyd be retirement age by the time they started having the skill to actually do the work -- and even if they did do it amazingly fast as a legendary talent -- nobody would hire them anyway.

learn to code is an absolute fucking joke. if you have a connection you got a slim to none chance of bypassing HR. without that, HR will burn your application in a fire before even reading it. so that coal miner is gonna have to start his own successful startup to get into the biz -- no other way for him, not without giving him entirely free college retraining to help him (self learning leaves some gaps at least up to the mid-level once you get there you can continue on your own just fine), and access to social groups of engineers which the guy likely does not have.

not to mention it takes a special type of person to be a programmer and not literally hate themselves from the type of unique stresses it causes. you have to enjoy doing it and tolerate that well under pressure.

almost 100% of all coders, hobbyists + pros alike, agree with me entirely in tech discussion communities.

would you ask a programmer with sissy arms that cant possibly produce the same as other workers in coal mining to go become a coal miner?

because I cant work in my field, I often DO work construction, and I take a LOT LESS PAY because I cant carry as much and i hurt my frail body easily. people are surprised how hard i bust my ass through the pain -- often continuing to work with broken bones and not going to the doctor. but it doesnt mean I can handle it really, or be as productive. guy next to me does twice the work twice as fast -- and nobody blames me. i take less money and they see me trying as hard as they are. its just you cant expect me to lift 4x my bodyweight which is like half theirs.

1
quodvox 1 point ago +1 / -0

learn to code isnt useful for anyone

I disagree with this. I think you underestimate the intelligence of a lot of miners. Obviously it's not for everyone, or even most people, which is why I said (wild guess) 5%. And I use 'learn to code' liberally. There are a number of jobs in and around the tech field that are not explicitly programming, but acquire an ability to learn new technology and do something with it, or with people.

Separately, you're not wrong in that a lot of positions come from connections. There's just too much competition to try to get in to most companies just by applying online or sending in your resume.

I'm not asserting that someone leaves their job at the mine on a Monday and starts at Google on Friday. But there's a large spectrum between that and "is never retrainable and could never work in the tech field"

Finally, I'm sorry about your experiences in the industry and your difficulty finding work. You sound discouraged, and if I can help, or you just want to talk, PM me.

quodvox 3 points ago +3 / -0

Fair. That's a very good point. Just like there will be a demand for non-fuel uses of oil for a while, I think that's a reasonable use for coal, although since Carbon is the input for steel making, CO2 distillation from the atmosphere would probably be easier than digging it out of the ground. But until that day, we should definitely keep some coal mining around, just not burning for electricity or heat.

5
Libertas_Vel_Mors 5 points ago +5 / -0

If the city liberals ever saw just how shitty the living arrangements were for some of the poorer rural folk, they'd fall over themselves trying to get back into town.

blackdudeinresidence 16 points ago +16 / -0

They forced low income housing in my neighborhood, and on the regular, my Ring alerts are primarily from that one location. Unfortunately, they are putting more in a new development in the same suburb. Developers are just as culpable in all of this, since they leech tax credits from taxpayers through local govt in exchange for putting a percentage of low income in their projects. I bought in this neighborhood for a reason dang it.

8
LastconservativeNY 8 points ago +8 / -0

I lived until recently in a very swanky neighborhood that was constantly under attack for not having low income housing. The loveliness of the town - beautiful homes, clean streets, zero crime, were reflected in the huge housing costs. After years of litigation, the town agreed to build low income housing.

They built one apartment building (pre-fab, like Legos) for elderly low income. No other family members may live there. No use of schools. They had to transplant old people from inner cities to fill it up. But, because the "grankids" can't stay with grandma to use the schools, it worked out. Also, it is located on a highway overpass, barely within the town limits. You'd never know it was there.

2
mugwump 2 points ago +2 / -0

I bet the old people loved it too.

7
quodvox 7 points ago +7 / -0

That's the problem with concentrating low income housing in one place. You end up with Cabrini-Green all over again.

Also, I think there should be some sort of scale with low-income housing. Just like anyone else, maybe you should have to work your way up to get to a nice neighborhood; that would help serve as a filter to let those in who will have comparable standards of care for their residence. It makes absolutely no sense to just gift someone a house in an upper-middle-class neighborhood without making them work proportionally more for it; the alternative is someone who has no appreciation for it and places no value on it; takes no pride in their 'achievement'.

For a lower-middle-class person who has to work really hard to get into a slightly-less-shitty-neighborhood, a slightly nicer apartment, it's a disincentive for someone else to come along and get the same thing with a big government handout just for making it to the top of a list.

9
Wheredidiputit 9 points ago +9 / -0

it's usually not houses though. It's multi family homes/apartments. But yeah, it's still free. I had a neighbor who hadn't worked for years after "hurting her back" and would bitch and moan about her $60.00 rent. Yes $60.

1
braveContrarian 1 point ago +1 / -0

tbh in this suburb the opposite scenario actually happened. it still descended into crime and poverty, but for different reasons. mainly inept governance at the state level that doesnt care about the rest of the state outside of its liberal voter base.

all the parents ended up turning to drugs and despair, which their kids stole while i was in high school (mainly opiates) when all the industry closed around them taking their jobs and livelihoods. which never came back as taxes rose and rose -- but never were used on our own communities.

the people who received the HUD ended up being the people who already owned homes here and used it to pay off their existing mortgages, or already rented here, but it still became a crime infested cesspit for the sole reason of lack of employment.

a few very liberal jobs came in, with requirements that nobody here had. and you had some people move in that were ultra liberal but the rich bastard kind that know what they're up to.

at this point the town basically practiced protectionism to protect existing town businesses that still existed and kept taxes and everything as low as possible in spite of it. but people still either left, or got trapped in the cycle of despair.

plenty of skilled tradesmen ended up having to make a go of it like a gig economy over the summer when there is work, and for many it just doesnt work.

needless to say im gonna leave too. nothing here anymore.

but the point is it can go south in more ways than just one. here it wasnt that policy itself, but the OTHER liberal policies which murdered us. previously nobody here wouldve possibly needed it.

but any proposal which benefits anything that is not the city immediately gets shut down and our voices dont matter. and even for those few liberal city jobs, even if you wanted to commute and have skills, since its so competitive to get them, entry level stuff people do while in college as a first job or with no credentials at all often require insane shit that you could leave the state and get paid 4x as much with the same credentials you already have.

its literally nuts.

tbh as someone who beat addiction, i wouldnt have been able to do it without being a leech for a little while.

it is possible to get so bad where your too sick to function or work, but WANT to stop. in which case you really gotta have free living for awhile to do it while your deathly ill and healing up.

its true only the person can choose to stop and quit themselves -- willpower is real (the rehab system is lies and shit -- you CAN have responsibility and choose to stop on your own and live a normal life you arent some victim of anything but yourself)

but its tough on surviving when your literally non-functional without drugs.

the sad reality of drug addiction is, when your physically hooked you arent using to get high all the time anymore. you wake up in horrific pain and illness like you got cancer and the flu, sometimes for months. the only way to make yourself functional in society for a day is to use -- which just gets you normal, not high.

its a real tragedy. Im only telling you so you got some info on helping people quit.

i managed to help someone else quit too at this point. by my own method not the one presented in rehab, which works. its to self-taper on non-approved stuff and take personal fucking responsibility then actually stop and DEAL WITH THE PAIN.

but dealing with the pain is the tough part. we can debate on me reading studies and being my own doctor if you want, but fact of the matter is I got 8 years behind me now. clearly it worked for me. and the friend I mentioned too.

I wanted out, and I got out. for good.

I wish Trump would announce a trial program. He's cancelled the requirement for low income/Section 8 housing across the US, but he's instituting a trial program....in Chappaqua, NY, Martha's Vineyard, and wherever Joe Biden's house(s) are.

Putting in Section 8 housing there would be worthwhile, because the most non bigoted, most welcoming, accepting people should be the first to welcome their new neighbors.

Once it's a proven success in areas where the Clintons, Bidens and Obamas live, then roll it out elsewhere....unless it doesn't go well.
