I love how people who supposedly work in that industry don't know how it works.
Those people don't work for $3 an hour. They have a lower base rate because they are tipped. With tips accounted for, if they do not make minimum wage, the employer has to cover the difference.
I know... I've was in that industry for awhile, and guess what I worked hard, made sure that the orders that I sent back to the kitchen were right, and most of all I was a very friendly server/bartender... and guess what I did pretty well for myself on tips.
Both my wife and I have had to live on tips, and that is exactly right. If you do your job well, stop acting like it is beneath you, and be friendly, you can make a ton of money....and lets be honest here...even more than that if you are a young, attractive woman lol.
Had a friend in HS who was a little hottie and worked at the local waffle house. She made more than most people in the area xD
Not to say that all server/waiter jobs are bad jobs. I have friends who make a great living in that profession because they are very good at it and got recruited to nice/high-end establishments. Hard work can pay off very well in that industry.
If you don’t make enough in tips the restaurant must bring you up to minimum wage. If you are a waitress/waiter you are a minimum wage employee who sometimes makes a little bit extra.
"I dated a wealthy guy once..."
Sorry Sam, that cast doubt on everything else that followed.
"I dated a wealthy guy once..."
Translation: He had $30 more in the bank than me
Industry is filled with druggies
