The idea was, the evil countries would use lasers to blind all the soldiers, as the sad but correct part of military strategy is that a very injured soldier hurts an army more than a dead one does.
Planning had gone into helmets, with the visors and lenses, to protect soldiers from these attacks.
There is no way to tolerate essentially lethal maiming weaponry like this being fired at will by anyone with impunity. No way, no how. Not at police, not at citizens, not at anyone.
I don't know if it will take laws, stuff in congress, stuff done locally, exec orders or a mix of all these, but the end outcome that has to be provided for is that police (and anyone else so targetted) must have the right to use their own lethal force in response, to return fire in response to lasers aimed at them. No way around it. No way to distinguish toy lasers from ones that maim when it comes to the need to act immediately, so they all have to be verboten, and all taken as threats of death.
