It was obvious Clooney had his eyes on a future political career when he finally married after being the most famous bachelor in Hollywood for a long time, being notorious for never getting married and always tomcatting around long past middle age. The only reason he'd marry would be because of some hopeful political career since for some reason even in the current year it's considered weird for politicians to run and be unmarried.
So I've been wondering when he'd go for it too. I think this is one of the reasons why so many in Hollywood hate Trump, he became President the first time he tried and it was easy for him to get elected he just had to be honest. He could be well aware that as a wealthy and famous man he has a lot to lose in a divorce but nothing to gain in a marriage. The divorce rate is much too high in this country for any man to consider marriage without extreme amounts of vetting beforehand and even then it's a hell of a risk. This is something I think about and despair over frequently since I have a powerful desire to have children and I want to be a father more than I want to be anything else; but I am terrified of a sweet and wonderful woman I marry who mothers my children suddenly letting the mask slip and taking my children away from me. Then I end up like one of those broken men who live out of busted down old car spending every cent they have on alimony and child support just to avoid going to jail and never seeing their kids again, with their children growing up hating them and thinking they're a deadbeat because the mother kept every cent of child support for herself.
I've seen it happen to members of my family and to my friends and coworkers and I just don't know how you're supposed to avoid that happening. I could never be with a single mother and raise some other guy's kids so I don't know how to ever end up having kids of my own without living in mortal terror every moment that the hammer is about to drop.

Get a stable relationship with a woman, and after a couple of years start making children with her. It's that simple.

If after a decade you see that things aren't working out, then agree to separate. Before you start hating each other, this is critical. You must leave in good terms, so you must leave long before resentment is accumulated. Many couples start hating each other because the woman wants your stuff but as you agreed to not marry, you don't owe her shit. No obligations, no arguments.
For the children, you're very likely to get joint custody if you demonstrate to be a good father. Women get the majority of custodies mostly because the majority of men don't want it. If you fight it out in court, you have really good chances of getting joint custody or at least very long visiting times. And again, if you leave in good terms you shouldn't have a problem even if she spends more time with your kids.
Beware: don't get with someone who wants your money. If she wants to marry at all costs it's a red flag.
