I think that has more to do with two things: MacOS has had historically low adoption in comparison to Windows and also the fact that Apple makes it more difficult to run executable files from unverified publishers than Microsoft does. The first point is probably the main one. With a smaller user base there is less incentive for a hacker to target the platform. The same could be said for Linux though Linux also has the benefit that software is typically installed through a package manager only giving the user acess to trusted applications similar to a smartphone.

This is just not true. There are more Linux based devices in the wild than all Microsoft and apple combined.
Think all cloud servers, IoT, Android phones, embedded devices, etc. All run Linux.
It's just better software for lots of technical and process driven reasons (open source).
