It use to puzzle me and I just assumed he must have had some special talent nobody knows of, but after hearing how clueless he was yesterday I realized his just another diversity hire behind which the board of directors could hide to get away with all their shit.

I.O.W., he ticks boxes, that's all.

2

He's not a diversity hire. But it's true that Google is suppressing conservative voices.

I've dealt with far too many of them to be able to ignore the signs. Honestly, I am disappointed, I expected more from Google, but their downward trajectory since 2016 makes more sense now.

2
Cadastral 2 points ago +3 / -1

I'm disappointed as well. But I wouldn't downplay Sundar's executive abilities. He's really not a diversity hire. By all accounts he's an absolutely amazing exec, even if I disagree with many of Google's actual actions.

Sundar Pichai is another example of why we shouldn't allow H-1B visa immigration and probably cut off all immigration from nations that do not have a thriving, stable democracy. People who come from cultures that enforce caste systems should not be allowed into the U.S. as citizens. They don't understand what freedom, liberty, openness and democracy really mean. In their minds, it means "my tribe wins" and they have no sense of rule of law, fair play, common good etc. They lie and cheat and implement unfair practices just because they can, which is a mark of societies that have real oppression, like India.

4
NegativeRainbow 4 points ago +4 / -0

Try looking up "Zero Rupee Note". It's not even about the "caste" system... it's about how the corruption like bribery is a basic custom like how being courteous here is. You can't do anything in Pooland without paying a bribe.

So stop trying to make this about "race" when it's a matter of their entire culture.

0
Cadastral 0 points ago +1 / -1

While I'm no Sundar apologist, you have stated many wrong things here. Our side will make better points with the mainstream if we stick with the truth. The caste system in India is not what people think it is. It was a vestige of an old system that was revived by the British and then codified more stringently. If anything you should be blaming the Brits. BTW, it's also illegal in India today to discriminate on the basis of caste. India is the largest democracy in the world (look it up). Not a republic, like our glorious nation, but it is a democracy. And Sundar Pichai isn't here on an H1B. He's a US citizen and renounced his Indian citizenship.

1
Smurfection 1 point ago +1 / -0

What a bunch of anti colonial bs. The caste system is one of the fundamental parts of the Hindu religion which is the predominant religion in India. To blame the Brits for the caste system would be to ignore 1) The Brits, having a monarchy and aristocracy, weren't generally opposed to stratified societies and therefore didn't see a reason to upend Indian caste tradition. The move to do so, in itself would have engendered even more problems. 2) It's not the Chinese and hostile Islamic factions didn't use the caste system to their own advantage as well. In fact the whole point of a caste system is to for elites to use the lower caste(s) to their own advantage. Don't blame Indians own historical abuse of their own people on foreigners when its Indians themselves that created and fostered the system. That's like Americans blaming the Dutch and British for the slave states in the South.

India may be the largest democracy but It's not independent of its own culture which contains a caste system and which AS YOU KNOW, many Indian Americans even carry over into America when they immigrate here. Find an Indian who had been part of the untouchable class that is now a lawyer or engineer or owns a shop in the U.S..... They know there's still a caste system among Indian Americans who immigrate here. Stop trying to pretend all that bad stuff is in the past when you know it's here and its still the case in India. Go write for tripadvisor and stop trying to gaslight me.

Sundar Pichai's citizenship isn't in question. What I am questioning is that he has any American values outside of being a lefty beech. That's what I'm questioning. Our Democratic Republican works because there is a fundamental social compact that we play fair with each and we win and lose with dignity. In a more enlightened age, we would say, win or lose like gentlemen. The problem with a lot of Immigrants, not limited to just Indian immigrants, is that they do not value the morals, characters and customs of a free, open, society that values liberty, freedom of speech, fair play and written rules. Rather, they have a more tribal attitude of "might makes right" when they are in power but whine about everything no matter how small when they're not. The partisanship of our nation is in part, being driven by immigrants that imported an us versus them culture into the United states and thus see their political party affiliation as a tribal rather than seeing it as legitimate disagreement and dissent. It's played to win just to win rather than to achieve ideal principles for all Americans. Sundar Pichai, by silencing those whom are not in agreement with his lefty agenda, who do not thing his ideas are the best ideas and indeed, even harmful to the common good in the long run, are shut down simply because he's a tribal boy that has too much arrogance, pride and self righteous to understand that open, free and common debate, however unseemly or vulgar, is part of what makes a democratic society, truly democratic. The only way to keep freedom alive is to allow everyone freedom, even political and ideological enemies. It's this last point that these sorts of immigrants do not understand, do not appreciate and seek to destroy. That's why those like Sunda Pichai should not be allowed to immigrant to the U.S. They seek to overturn and to be revolutionaries rather than seeking calm rational debate and stability.

Cadastral 0 points ago +1 / -1

Wow, you wrote a lot of interesting text. Suffice it to say that I think caste in India is still a controversial topic. You might find this article interesting: https://theprint.in/pageturner/excerpt/did-the-british-invent-caste-in-india-yes-at-least-how-we-see-it-now/245615/

I agree with you that Sundar (like pretty much all of Google's senior executives) is a crazed leftist and may even be in league with enemies of the US like the CCP. I also agree that Indian immigrants are often likely to have a more tribal attitude (which I blame on the centuries of Mughal rule, as this attitude still seems quite common in most Muslim countries). I think Indians in general do understand the value of free and open debate, but are not necessarily above a little chicanery to win (particularly those that are rabid leftists, which it often seems the intellectual class are).

2
Smurfection 2 points ago +2 / -0

That article is a bunch of anti colonial bs. India can whine all it wants about being the colonial beech of the Brits but so was America. How many Americans do you see going around whining and crying about being George III's beech? None! Why? Because we threw his butt out of the U.S. and then we did it again in 1812 and when the Brits tried to encroach again during the Civil War, we kicked their butts again and they dropped their support of the South. Maybe take that as a lesson and stop trying to blame all of India's backward behavior on the Brits. We all flippin' know the British empire wasn't composed of angels and saints. India sure as heck wouldn't be a Democracy without the British occupation though so quit your whining! Adjust your mentality. If you're an American stop trying to pin India's woes and outsiders and start celebrating America's War of Independence from the British Empire. Do a little less, Brits did this to India and a little more reading of 1) Thomas Paine's Common Sense, 2) The Declaration of Independence, 3) The biographies of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Ben Franklin's Autobiography, 4) The Federalist Papers and 5) early American history like the Whiskey Rebellion, the Daniel Boone, Lewis and Clarke, and drop the obsession with India.

0
Cadastral 0 points ago +1 / -1

Hmm, maybe. The Indian and America situations were quite different however and are difficult to compare.

1
Smurfection 1 point ago +1 / -0

yes, they were different situations and being harsh on India and toward you for a reason. My point is that if you're an American, you should have the American attitude instead of reflexive defensive posture toward India. If you care more about India's well being than America's well being, you shouldn't be here. That's exactly my point about Sundar Pichai. I'm not here to compare crib notes on occupations and colonists. I'm here to MAGA. I like PM Mundi and I like all our Americans from India but the point is, they got to be Americans First. Sundar Pichai is not. That's why he isn't really an American, citizenship or not, he doesn't get us or our culture. He's making the same mistake every group makes when they first come over - they identify as Democrat because they are tricked by the gibmedats and then argue for the left as if they were a tribal member. You might have a difficult time understanding this, but Americans shouldn't treat their domestic political opposition as political enemies and seek a total victory. Our system is designed to constantly allow factions to rise and fall and in this way, we moderate and restrain each other. If we start putting our weight on the scales, everything falls apart.

0
Cadastral 0 points ago +1 / -1

I'm not sure you were being harsh, but I also don't see how any of what I was saying is defending India at the expense of America. Anyway, I think we're basically on the same page.

The large tech companies can outright lie to congress about their internal business practices and without whistle blowers, they can just say, "its a glitch" and the old dinosaurs in congress will just shrug their shoulders and do nothing or look the other way for some bribery. Measure results from the outside is difficult and google keeps buying up every analytics from that can be used to monitor their corruption.

Why should I bother voting for a party that is actively trying to annihilate all conservatism and in effect, the USA itself? If their role in our destruction is to silently stand by and do nothing at all while the dems do most of the dirty work, are they any less culpable?

2
Licensetomeme 2 points ago +2 / -0

This bitch doesn't seem to understand the very basis of machine learning. Yes, the machine creates its own algorithms for the most part. But those algorithms are based on what humans deem is acceptable and not. Machines manipulate input data and provide an output. We tell them whether that output is right or wrong. Then, the process repeats itself.

Idk why whether or not it's handcrafted by people or not is irrelevant. It's like putting the blame on the robots designed to make cd's or something in case of a mass defect instead of the designer themselves. This is the millenial generation in a nutshell. Nothing is our fault. I didn't drop the sandwich. Gravity did.
