Hello Pedes,
I just want to share a personal account of what happened to me at a gym in Texas. I was finishing swimming laps at the pool and was in the process of drying off and walking towards the lockerroom when I GASP drank out of my water bottle while doing so.
I was targeted by a female worker who worked there who approached me directly to my face and aggressively asked me "WILL YOU PUT ON A MASK WHEN YOU'RE DONE DRINKING WATER??"
Now keep in mind in doing so she violated the precious 6 foot rule while simultaneously accusing me of a thought-crime. I unfortunately had to report this to the head of the gym. I told them that this was targeted harassment and that no one should be accosted this way and that she has agency to avoid me if she believes I am a health threat.
Furthermore there is ZERO signage that suggests that you aren't allowed to walk while drinking water. To make a long story short, I met with the head of the gym in person to plead that this was ludicrous and he doubled-down and said they didn't have to post this rule and that if I wouldn't follow it they would refund me my money and I could go elsewhere.
I personally like it at this gym, but my experience with the staff and leadership now has tainted it for me. I'm now looking at joining a new gym and considering a refund.
I'm not sure if it's legal for them to enforce this rule whatsoever. Can anyone help out or have a suggestion in the interim for how I could oppose this? I want to walk around and drink water after my workout because I have shit to do and I can't accept this armchair tyranny.
