I know plenty of doctors that 100% acknowledge it has no mortality benefit. It has only shown to reduce hospital length of stay, kind of like a "Tamiflu" for Covid. Expensive as fuck, but juuuuuust cheap enough that the extra hospital days are more expensive so hospitals still want it. It increases patient throughput and hypothetically reduces the risk of hospitals getting overrun (which they generally haven't, and lots are going bankrupt because a surge never happened for them).

There's a lot of useful medication out that that takes much longer to get approved than it should just because there is no profit in permanently solving a problem.
One example is the male birth control contraceptive Vaselgel. It's been shown to be 100% effect in trials with alpha male gorillas mating with dozens of women. You can read about how it works, but its essentially a one time shot (in the balls) that is 100% effective at stopping pregnancy, and can be reversed with a shot of baking soda and water to the nuts, but no pharma company will touch it because it would cut into the female birth control pill market.
A one time shot that last 5+ years vs a pill women have to take constantly. There's no money in a quick, easy, and cheap solution so the Vaselgel finally had to get crowdfunded to start the FDA approval process.
