I've been on our border from San Diego to Arizona. It was wide open and anyone with enough determination and equipment could come right over. Since the wall has come up I've seen almost no gang bangers in central San Diego and almost no one I would suspect was an illegal immigrant.
The community I am in doesn't appreciate this (neoliberals). But I do and I know first hand how big of an impact the wall system has had. Yuge.
I don't know but I do have some experience here as I know gangs and I have helped rehab a coyote (trafficker). What I do know is that San Diego is the way station. They get the illegal aliens into the city first and stage them to move on north, then form ghettos. So while San Diego is on the border it has a relatively low population of illegals to begin with as this is not a safe place for them to be. There are still plenty, don't get me wrong, and there is a lot of wilderness where they camp around here.
I don't see them employed as often but most of the laborers and all of the school children in my mid-city area are hispanic. All of the laborers speak Spanish. Likely they have green cards. There just are not as many so I think those that are not guest workers have moved on, returned, were deported, or fled.
The gang bangers worry me the most. Our area has been gentrified so at least a portion of them were pushed to the south east. The influx of whites and the comingling of blacks, whites, asians, etc. did normalize race relations. So the gang culture was subsumed by hipster culture. Until BLM came in and now it's all fucked up again with tension in the community as BLM people are looking for a fight, any fight, and anyone they can hurt while preaching "tolerance".
