Agreed. The republican party used to have a progressive(true progressive not lefist) faction and a conservative faction. The conservative faction ended up taking over. But one main problem is, the reagan republicans economic theory of low taxes = better for everyone. And make the market as "free" as possible.
What people dont realize is, this is in part why our manufacturing has gone to foreign countries. What ended up happening was in seek of higher profit margins manufacturing companies realized they can go to china, vietnam etc for lower labor costs and hence higher profit margins. Obviously we have dollar store quality crap everywhere now, but in general their decrease in labor costs hasnt led to a proportional decrease in the cost of goods.
Now the middle class has been gutted over the past 30+ years, people have to ask was low corporate tax a good idea? Many of these companies profited from the destruction of the middle class, so most definitely I think we need legislation that taxes companies that profited from american job killing.
This low taxes thing, only really helps the corporate class (who now favor democrats because republicans have started thinking this way since trump) needs to end, for common folks yeah keep the taxes low. But oh yeah nuke the guys who killed american jobs but pass laws that bankrupt them if they try to move HQ out of the states.
In particular something along the lines of industry reduction tax. So if your corporation contributed or benefited to gutting american labor, then you pay a larger corporate tax.
