I know someone who is a lawyer for State Farm, works on fraudulent insurance claims. We were talking one time about people looking to scam companies/rich individuals and the McDonald’s case came up. I was under the impression, duh coffee is hot but then she said she was taught about the case in school because it’s a case where the victim was well within her rights to sue, it wasn’t just a frivolous lawsuit. Told me to google the photos of the old lady’s injuries from it. Consider me schooled. Media slandered the poor woman and made her the faux poster child for “frivolous” lawsuits. This was pre Trump election. Now I’m not surprised at how the media twists things. In China people wear body cams when driving on motorcycles or have them in their cars so they can prevent fake injury lawsuits. I guess it’s a thing for people to walk in front of cars, wait to get hit and then they force the victims to compensate them for it. ANTIFA tactics are straight out of China’s citizens handbook. I don’t know if it’s mandated but lots of people have them. If you look up the account @nowhybecausechina on Instagram, they have a lot of video examples of it, as well as some truly epic and head scratching car accidents.
There's a documentary about it and one of the attorneys also wrote a book. The lady only wanted her medical bills paid, which were cheap at the time. MCDonald's knew they were serving their coffee too hot and had injured several other people. The case was widely publicized to promote tort reform by forces trying to cap injury lawsuit payouts.
This case actually started me on my path of learning how messed up things are and how the media lies. When my friend told me to look into it, I was shocked at how the narrative of the victim was twisted so badly. So when the Podesta emails came out I read a good junk of them to see what else would be lied about (cough cough pizzagate). Really should thank her for leading me on a path of discovery haha.

I would think that if they try to sue, they open themselves up to countersuit by OP, and the odds would be stacked in his favor. I would be very surprised if a lawyer would go through with that, but surely somebody is that sleazy to take their money
