No worries, we were both speaking generally and (I hope) somewhat tongue-in-cheek. ;~)

Just to be clear, though, any man -- even a fellow 'pede or Sean Connery -- who advocates the initiation of violence against women, children, or pets is not cool in my book.

This mantra annoys the shit out of me. I had 2 mates knifed by women (one died) they both (the women) deserved a serious beating and/or hanging. I’ve seen spoilt children deprived of a good ‘whack’ grow into the same self-entitled adults we despise. Thirdly, if a fucking dog tries to attack me or my family I will destroy it. Violence is not necessarily a bad thing but arbitrary protection from it is.

Reread what I wrote: initiation of violence -- meaning, against the innocent -- is not cool.

Real self-defense (such as from a knife-wielding spouse) is a whole 'nother ballgame for either sex.

Physical punishment is a fine line to walk -- because (can confirm both as a target and from professional experience) it too often escalates into abuse and domestic violence -- though I agree that children need to learn consequences from an early age.

If men-pedes want to uphold traditional male/female roles, though, as many here say they do, then it's especially important for those men to be not just providers for but protectors of the innocent lives in their care. Just saying.

Fair enough. Thanks for the clarification, I can honestly say that 90% of the fights I have endured were in defence of the defenceless. I can also say that, having experienced many facets of criminality (from both sides), evil is not gender specific and neither is the defence against it.
