The older I get, the more I learn about everything, and the more I realize how absolutely fucking retarded I actually am in the grand scheme of things. And I say this as someone who has a degree in Chemical Engineering and works in a high-tech industry.
If anyone thinks they are "smart" and not just referring to one subject like their profession, it just shows how ignorant they are of the entire world. Plus, smarts really don't mean shit. Life experiences are everything, and its part of the reason why there exists stuff such as a 35 year minimum age to be POTUS.
Back when I was like a teenager, I thought I was the smartest guy around. It wasn't really until I hit college and then later industry that I realized just how little I know about everything. I feel like that is the problem with the world currently, everyone tries to have an opinion on everything but all of our issues are so massive and complex that no one can really have an educated opinion on every topic.
Yep, I used to laugh at older people who stopped drinking and partying (“hah couldn’t handle it pussies? I will be still doing it when I’m older”) and now I don’t want to do that stuff at all, nor childish sports watching. And also with that aging cane realization about MAGA over emotional moral relativism of lefty politics. But I still think I’m a fucking idiot, just hopefully a bit less so each day.
Here's some additional advice from an old guy: Be wary of anyone who tells you how smart, hardworking, God-fearing, or honest they are. These are traits to be observed, not told. So anyone who is any of these things should not have to say it, and the more they do, the less they are.
This goes double if they are yelling. I've known probably three true geniuses in my life. People who never, ever forgot anything and could master any subject. Astoundingly smart. The one thing in common from all three : I never, once, heard them yell.
Idiots yell all the time. A genius rarely speaks out.
