I'm not gonna claim to have all the answers, but certain states just aren't compatible with "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness". I am thankful to be in Nebraska, our business is open and operating fully. My kids are going to start school in 10 days with NO masks, no bullshit. I went to a small town car show a few weeks ago, 125 cars, 1000 people, no masks, just freedom, snow cones and bbq. Move to one of the states that people make fun of, start a business and make $80k and live like a king.

The town I work in is pressing charges against a business that was ordered to shut down because people weren’t wearing masks and the owner refused to shut down. The BS is EVERYWHERE.

Make appts to go check out the interior - even if you can’t start right now. Ask for business banking and merchant account brochures from local banks. Spend time on the SBA website getting info on loans. Sketch out a name and logo - hire a graphic artist to make it look professional and print it out to hang up all around your house and garage. Get business cards printed just to see what it looks like. We’ve had our own business, our sole source of income, for 16 years. It enabled my husband to work it while I helped from home so I could raise our kids, and do homeschool intermittently through the years. In these crazy times, which don’t look to be improving soon if these liberal tyrants keep getting their way, what do you have to lose?
You can own your own business and still get fucked if you live in New Jersey or California or New York or Pennsylvania or take your pick of liberal shitholes.
DO IT. I did and never looked back. Find an underserved niche in your area, learn the skill you need or work on the ones you have and just do it. There are small businesses that can be started for a couple of hundred dollars in tools and equipment, especially if you already have some of it already. You don't even need a retail location if you are performing a service, you can work out of your home or in other's homes. Make sure to get liability insurance, it's very affordable if you shop around. Go for it, pede.
It’s not easy being your own boss either, but it’s by far the most rewarding thing you can do....for a living.
It is really unfair how some places can stay open and others cannot. The laundromat business is the same as ever here because we are considered "essential". I never considered my business more important than a barber shop or gym, you can wash your clothes at home the same as you can cut your own hair or work out.

I own my own business, but over the last 3 months the industry collapsed and my business went with it.
I essentially had to start a new business selling a completely different product and risk a good chunk of my savings and working 18 hour days building it up. Thank G-d it is starting to pay off.
I have been on both sides, and being a business owner only increases risk and stress. The payoff is better if you are successful, but you have to have the nerves for it.

Sorry to tell you this, and this is coming from someone who lives in a deep blue. This is 100% on you. Even here there are thousands of places desperate for any employee. Lots of places opened back up because they realized all this shit is a scam (again, my area is BLUE).
I have literally been to businesses in the middle of the day and they would just be closed with a note saying "closed due to lack of employees, send resumes to (email)". I've been to businesses that are obviously extremely severely understaffed. Do you know how weird it feels going to a barbershop with 15 chairs and only one barber, with 10 people in line?
Honestly, now is the absolute BEST time to start a business. So many people are fucking terrified of something with a .001% mortality rate that no one wants to work. If you have any skills, just put an ad up on craigslist or whatever. Have a truck? Cleaning and waste disposal. They make pretty good money. When I was demoing about a year ago I had to call them a few times. They were not cheap. $250-300 every time to pick up some construction debris and take it away. Not bad for about 2 hours of work.
I didn't shut down my job. The govt did. And I'd do anything to get it open. And fight it every day.
