Thank you for your well-written post! I've often felt that I may be a little more Libertarian than Republican. Trump is an excellent candidate for both schools of thought IMHO.
I say libertarians are naiive not to see china as a massive threat to freedom and free trade globally.
Not only naive, but overtly dishonest. They don't say a word about how the rest of the world tariffs the living shit out of our products. But then lose their minds when Trump puts some mild tariffs on them for retaliation.
If I were the conspiracy type, it wouldn't be a stretch to say lolbertarians and all joke "Free traders" are just agents of foreign nations who seek to subvert us. They are COMPLETELY SILENT on all of the abuses from those countries, yet scream at the sky when we retaliate.
At this point, they're not just crazy, they're anti-American.
So many great stories on this thread, thanks for yours too!
I'd like to make a point about the libertarian part you mentioned.
They make many absurd arguments, free of facts or reality. But the one you mentioned, of them being open borders, is one of the worst.
The reason, is that they say without a cradle to grave welfare state, open borders wouldn't be a problem.
I don't buy that, but I'll entertain the idea for the sake of argument.
The reality is that America is always going to have some type of welfare state. Whether it's free K-12 education, food stamps, low income housing, whatever. We are always going to have that, every developed country does, and is going to continue to do so, whether we like it or not.
So their argument is essentially "if political reality wasn't what it was, our idea would work". Perhaps true. But since political reality is actually a real thing, the lolbertarian idea is NOT GOING TO WORK.
A true libertarian is for open borders IF there is no social welfare state and free gov handouts.
So basically libertarians are stating their policies in an ideal world.
Go youtube friedman on illegal immigration. The only issue is also that the US has weird ID laws allowing illegals to vote otherwise illegals arent really a problem as they dont get handouts and pay some taxes.
I follow libertarianism on a casual level. There's a liberal strain of libertarianism that seems on top of the libertarian party. I can't help but think it's being sabotaged.
It's a pity that the libertarian party is not a more credible option.
I ding in general that libertarians tend to be religious about their beliefs and sometimes are so intent on their principles that they can lack the ability to make common sense judgements.
So I try not to make any political philosophy my religion.
I'm conservative because I feel Western culture and christian values are worth preserving.

Now I'm a stealth KAG supporter lurking at a university. I keep dropping subtle red pills. Not enough to get me outed and my career ruined, but just enough to get people thinking... For example, last week I told my rabid leftist coworker "hey did you hear they are talking about requiring goggles too?"
It has been a wild couple of years. My parents say they hardly recognize me anymore. Kek.
Great post! I like Peterson too. His calm and analytical way of explaining things really appealed to me. Then people called him a Nazi and I just couldn't believe it!
That was my wakeup call when I was a democrat. I found peterson and couldnt get enough of what he had to say. Shortly after I found him the mob came after him and seeing that, I'll never be the same. First time I saw the people I thought were "progressive" bullying the people I actually really enjoyed listening too
3 people I know personally were pissed in 2016 that I voted trump. One voted Clinton the other two abstained but hated trump. Fast foward to 2020 the Clinton voter had a child and started running a very successful business and switched to trump organically, one of the abstained voters had her car burned and destroyed by BLM in the riots down town and is now a trump voter, the other man who did not vote in 2016 and actually stopped talking to me for 6 months after the election had an awakening moment when he was kept up for almost 3 weeks by helicopter noise and low grade rioting down town and is now voting trump.

I never really cared about politics until the 2016 election. I just thought that since Obama was black he was a good president. In 2016 I mindlessly believed everything that the media said about Trump and his supporters, and I'm ashamed to say, it made me a nasty and hateful person.
I was about as militant and retarded as any leftist can be. I would go on rants, for hours a day, every day, about how Trump was racist, sexist, homophobic, all of that. I would say people should be more tolerant but I wasn't tolerant of any conservative viewpoints. It was a blatant hypocrisy. I would actually browse r/The_Donald but everything I would see just pissed me off.
What I didn't realize was that a lot of my friends were conservative, they just didn't want to admit it to me (and I can't really blame them). A lot of my friends started telling me things that I didn't know, or giving me actual facts. Sometimes I would try to debate them, but I almost always ended up losing.
At the same time, r/The_Donald actually started growing on me. Even though I first hated it, it slowly showed me that nobody on there was actually hateful of anybody, and in fact, it was people form all walks of life brought together by their love for their country and freedom.
I would occasionally watch Trump speeches or rallies just to see what he had to say, and whenever he talked I always ended up thinking he seemed charismatic, intelligent, and good natured.
All in all, it took a really long time, a lot of patience from other people, and I can't imagine it was easy, but I went from being the stereotypical crazy leftist to a Trump supporter. The timeline is still crazy to think about, but I'm glad things went the way they went.
I like to think that if I could change, any leftist, no matter how stupid or ignorant has a chance to see the light and take the red pill.

Hard times bring out our worst. But he who endures to the end wins.
I hated him in 2016 because all my friends on Facebook and the media said he was stupid. Then I somehow came across the_donald on reddit and saw all the energy you guys had for him. The sub only had like 20k subscribers at that point but the energy was off the charts. I looked at Trump's issues on his website and I was surprised I agreed with every one of them. Thanks to this community, I changed my mind. Then went to my first Trump rally shortly after.
I'm jealous! I've always wanted to go to a rally. Every one I've watched looks like a blast and so high energy. He's not likely to hold one here in Commifornia though...
It was really fun and totally changed my opinion on rallies. While you're waiting you get to talk to other supporters and each one is different and has a different story. And unlike what the media shows, it was really diverse. I hope he holds one in Cali for you! You guys need it the most
I went to my first rally a couple years ago. Small venue, only 8000 people with another 8000 outside, but it felt like 100,000 people. I had as much fun talking to the people in line before the event. All creeds, all colors, all Trump. Definitely go to one when you get a chance. It’ll be worth the drive.
I had this chat with a friend today. I mentioned HCQ and he went into a tirade - how Trump is pushing poppycock because he cannot get numbers under control.
I asked him whether Trump has overturned anything any Dem city wanted to with Covid, and he argued that Trump cannot overturn what the locals want - thinking he was making a smart point.
I then pointed to him the graph where the 5 dem cities have most nursing home deaths (and overall deaths). I also pointed out that 40% of deaths were in nursing homes. I asked if if he can somehow pin this on Trump.
He was not aware of this, so obviously he needed research time. After having lunch, I resumed the conversation and asked him if he had found a way to pin it on Trump yet and I could hear his voice wavering and could feel all the misgivings.
Thats when I asked him - "How is pushing HCQ going to help Trump if he has no control over what happens in these cities and their nursing homes?" and he finally fell for the trap. He screamed at me "Do you realise that if what you are saying is true, then not only CDC, WHO but all the doctors and professionals are lying. How can it make sense ? There is a BODY of evidence that HCQ doesn't work"
I then calmly showed him all the links to research papers I have collected that shows HCQ works very well. I also pointed out that it had to be used in right dose and either as a preventative or very early. And then asked him, why do you think everyone would want to bury this? What do they have to gain?
When he stayed silent I asked him about the Epstein case and Durham investigation and he tried to claim that it was all a distraction. I then asked him a simple question:
"Lets say someone is really scared about whats going to come out of further investigations. Very high ups. What do you think they will do to make sure he wont win this election? If they have everything at stake"
And he started repeating that this is all just crazy. I asked him if there was ANY otehr reason to disbelieve all this except that so many people cannot be corrupt. He had no answer. I haven't heard from him, but I think he is slowly processing it, and is getting redpilled. He loves to do "research" and I gave him some non-MSM sources to look into, I am pretty sure he is going to convert.
On the subject of HCQ, I'd say the most definitive site is here:
c19study.com
It shows every study that has been done, with a short summary of each. Some are positive, some inconclusive, some are negative. But the majority are positive.
What's strange is that even the conclusions on some of the papers are suspect. They'll show improvement in the data, but then conclude there was no positive effect. So even some of the studies themselves are compromised.
As many have said, zinc is needed too, and starting treatment early on shows the most promising results.
Give the link above to your friend.
Also of interest, in the other direction, is this tweet thread:
This guy gives some good evidence for why it does NOT work. As you'll see in the comments, he does NOT address zinc, and does NOT refute every study at c19study.com. He does however, give some interesting insights.
Yeah, I have the c19study.com in my arsenal and is very hard to argue with. Some are even meta studies of different studies in that list.
That twitter thread is good. I am not a biology major, but I plan to follow each of his steps and try and understand for myself what he is saying, and whether that is relevant to what we are facing with COVID-19.
My friend has told me that he agrees about HCQ butnone of the other "crazy" conspiracy theories. I like to see him take just one bite on the red pill and stop lol.
My change was brought on by similar events to these riots back in 2016.
I started 2016 supporting Bernie. My wife, an immigrant by the way, supported Trump from the moment he rode the escalator. She even decided to get full citizenship in 2016 instead of just green card so she could vote for him.
Anyways I never hated Trump, I always felt anyone could support who they wanted. I just kept telling my wife he could never win the nomination. She couldn't stand that I supported Bernie though.
Well change was instant. The night that Trump was going to do a rally and I believe at the university of Chicago. That is the night protestors shut the rally down. I was like “This isn't right, you cant stop someones freedom of speech”. I went on the Sanders reddit and was asking people if they thought it was a good idea to shut others down. I got called concern troll and told yea, it is great to shut Trump up. The red pill was starting to work.
Then about an hour later, I saw the protestors blocking an ambulance with it’s lights on. One of them shooting a bird at the driver.
That was the moment the red pill took full effect. I said Nooooooooo waayy am I going to support this kind of idiotic behavior. Trampling on freedom of speech was something I would never accept. Add to that ignorant protestors, and I was fully red pilled. So in the course of a few hours I went from a Bernie supporter to 90000% Trump supporter and never turned back. Luckily I converted early enough to support him in primaries as well as voting for him.
With all the chaos of todays environment, I just think there are probably others going through what I did. Once you see extremist acts, it can sober you up quick.
My wife, an immigrant by the way, supported Trump from the moment he rode the escalator. She even decided to get full citizenship in 2016 instead of just green card so she could vote for him.
I thought Trump would be a disaster and I figured Hillary would win in a landslide.
I have always worked full-time and back in 2015/2016 my way of staying "informed" was to watch the late-night shows (daily show and Colbert report especially) and to read Reddit.
When he won I was FLABBERGASTED.
After he won I stopped and thought to myself, "What did I miss?" and I ran to the media to try and figure it out. MSNBC, NYT, WaPo, etc. told me it was Russia and that ANY DAY NOW the truth would be revealed.
So I watched and I waited. Night after night. Commercial break after commercial break. "Bombshell" after "bombshell".....and yet....nothing? In the meantime not only did we not get into Nuclear War with North Korea but he actually made things better? And passed criminal justice reform? and a tax cut? And a bunch of other things I liked? WTF IS GOING ON!?!
"Wait a minute..." I thought, "Why isn't the sky falling though?"
They kept telling me to "stick with us....more after this....more when we come back...." and yet after every loop of commercials for prescriptions meds you should be taking to combat all of the side effects of all of the other prescription meds they try to get you to think you need they never delivered the goods.
"What if it's all bullshit?" I thought.
It took me back to the original question. What did I miss? The answer was on the other side. I had never given the other side a fair hearing. Not a real one. The late-night comedy shows and my hyper-liberal university taught me that republicans were ridiculous, hypocritical, morons to be mocked, and resisted. I had never really engaged with any conservatives and their ACTUAL arguments, on the merits, for and against different principles.
I started watching Ben Shapiro, SJW meltdown videos on youtube, videos about campus cancel culture, Jordan Peterson, watching Fox News, and yes visiting the_donald when we were still on Reddit. I began talking to my conservative family members about what they actually believe and I stumbled upon many, many, MANY videos of Donald Trump speaking, unedited by the media and I was amazed at how different his actual speeches were from what was reported.
By about the end of 2017 I realized how myopic I had been. I had been wrong, and I didn't want to be so close-minded anymore. The reason I always hated conservatives was perceived hypocrisy. Now the hypocrisy of the left was on full display, and I couldn't ignore it.
I am anti-hypocrisy and pro-America. I believe in our Bill of Rights and in working towards creating a more perfect Union. We're not perfect today, we won't be perfect tomorrow, but in so trying to create a more perfect Union we will MAGA!
"Wait a minute..." I thought, "Why isn't the sky falling though?"
This is such an important point. When you tell people over and over that the sky is falling, then the sky had better actually fall, or else you lose all credibility.
It's like those crazy religious cults that say "The world will end on Tuesday at 3:37PM". It had damn well better happen, or else the person looks like a fool.
Not many mentally strong and open minded young people like you these days, it seems.
"Anti-hypocrisy"! I'm with you 110% on that, nothing upsets me more and has been bigger in my conversion than the OBVIOUS, unending and open hypocrisy of the LEFTIST FREAKS. Near everything they do now is built in hypocrisy and lies.
Lifelong hardcore liberal up until ~2010 when the facade started lifting.
For the majority of my life growing up I lived in either diverse, crowded, or poor parts of NYC and the surrounding areas. Liberalism was dogma. Republicans and conservatives were something more like mythos. They only existed thumping bibles and hating gays in the midwest.
It wasn't until adult hood that my views were being challenged.
But when I look back, are my views really that different? They aren't. Trump is from NYC too. My father even worked for him, very very briefly in construction, a long time ago. Opinions that are considered "radical right wing" used to be moderate liberal ideas.
I still refuse to register as a Republican (I re-registered independent). I like Trump specifically, and with hold my right to judge future leaders on the same merit.
To repent I've committed myself to matching how much I gave to Obama, to Trump, this campaign cycle.
Opinions that are considered "radical right wing" used to be moderate liberal ideas.
This is such an important point. Most of us haven't changed much. We want the basics that are good for our country. It is the other side that has gone off the map.
Here is one. Was libertarian. Voted Johnson. Was so mad about how the media portrayed the guy. Didn’t click at the time that the media would do the same to Trump. Super happy that at least Hillary didn’t win. Watched some of the funny media freak outs. One day I’m browsing the internet and see “Steven Crowder Nazi”. Huh, why is this guy being called a Nazi and why is he on YouTube if he is that bad. Watch a lot of his shit. Definitely just a conservative guy. Started to go down the rabbit hole and watch actual Trump videos. Found T_D. Rest is history. Basically I knew they would lie about Johnson so I started digging and found out they lie about a bunch of shit and Trump was not who they said he was.
Edit: Also Trumps first State of the Union was a big time moment for me.
Was mostly apolitical with a strong heart for nationalism (We're the West, We're the best), got conned by the media into believing Bernie Good Trump Bad, and then sat down and did my homework when Bernie cucked to the DNC. Bought my ticket for the Trump train when I saw he really loves this country and its people, and now riding happily with NO BRAKES
Even the most ardent Democrat still doesn't have a good response when I ask them how come they've had four years to find a viable replacement for Donald Trump and the best they could do was Joe Biden?!
Be me 2016, never been into politics on a left right level, (more interested in conspiracies) figured that politicians are all the same. Didn't even know who was still running. Go to /pol/ to find out. See the word pizzagate hundreds, if not thousands of times. Wonder WTF? YouTube it. Very first video is a woman in the same boat as me. Takes about 2 minutes before I am certain there is something very strange going on here. Certainty increases exponentially over time. Realize that Donald Trump is the only one who is going to stop this. Now, I realize that he is so much greater than I ever imagined he would be!
This is almost exactly my story except it has been this virus response and when friends/family/co-workers started saying your an ahole if you don't wear mask and you are selfish if you don't - that's when I started looking into wth was going on - I haven't watched news of any kind for 10 years so had no idea that the msm was so freaking evil and that when Trump said they were fake news - he really wasn't kidding - they are fake news! Now all I see are zombies all around - those who have consumed this fake news every day are no longer able to think for themselves and even worse than that - it has caused so much more division and harm than I ever could imagine. So anyway - since I have not been indoctrinated by the fake news I can see that everything they have been screaming about Trump since even before he was elected is all lies and all because they are terrified of him calling them out and going after the real evil that hides in plain sight.
I threw away my vote because it was my first election and i didn't want to be "responsible" if Trump was as bad as they said. Voted for Jill Stein even though I really liked Trump.
Trump proved better than i ever imagined, nothing will stop me from voting for him this time.
Long story short, I have been a registered Democrat for over 30 years and I still am (I just don't vote for any Democrat any longer). I started my conversion half way through Slick Willy Clinton's first term. Couldn't believe the Left could fight for and re-elect a know sexual deviant and rapist. He degraded the Office of the Presidency more in a few years than all his predecessors combined. Once my eyes were opened, I began to realize just how evil the Left was and how all of their stated beliefs/politics were a front for evil.
Fast forward to now and I know 100% that the entire Demon Party is evil. It's shocking how far and how fast the Demon Party has degraded into evilness in the last 2 decades. They stand for nothing that is not evil. The groups they say they care for, women, minorities, children, illegals.....is all built on lies. They don't care about anyone but themselves and are now promoting race wars, social decay, illiteracy, lawlessness, all for power. They actually hope that we Americans war against each other. After all, killing each other reduces the population of the world which is one of their biggest agendas. Just ask Bill Gates, the world is over populated by at least 70%. If the population is continuing to grow, how does Gates and the Masters of the Universe achieve that goal without mass death like abortion, wars, plandemics and vaccines made to kill/sterilize, not cure? Not long ago, I would have thought myself crazy for thinking such things, now those things are as obvious as any facts that exist to me.
I think it was when I read an article about Milo Yianopolous being banned from Twitter.
I thought...hmmm...what could this terrible human being have said that was so terrible...
I read the articles and was surprised to find...Not one of the articles said what he had said to be banned...
...That was fishy...if he had said something bad...they surely would have quoted it?
So I decided to find out what he said by listening to him...and fount that he wasn't a terrible monster...Just politically incorrect, irreverent and funny.
I'm Canadian myself. Started out Trumps presidency firmly anti-Trump. Started to see the increasingly disgusting behavior of liberals online however and decided to check out some Trump forums to see if their hatred was justified. Of course, it wasn't. You guys aren't perfect but you're no where near the level of toxicity you can find on most of reddit.
At this point as well, I started too get into history, and the parallels between certain totalitarian states and a certain donkey-shaped party and their voter base scare the shit outta me.
1)They have 99% of mass media support (MSM, Hollywood, social media)
2)Federal agencies have been acting suspiciously partisan since the last administration
3)Has a mob of masked thugs that silences opposing opinions (that they claim not to support, yet defend anyways)
4)Imposing restrictions on freedom of speech and gun rights
5)Breeding hysteria in order to further political goals (Global warming, corona virus, mass shootings)
6)Clear hypocrisy (it was okay when Obama caged kids and deported illegals)
7)Fostering notions like blood-guilt (white privilege)
8)Increased socialist policy (increasing one's dependency on the state)
9)Removal of fair elections (DNC rigging, removal of electoral college, vote by mail and stuffing the electorate with illegals)
10)Denial of one's own history (all whites benefited from slavery, Republicans are the party of racists)
11)Control of education (universities)
I could go on and on, but I have stuff to do. I'm entirely convinced that they are trying to disguise a regime as a democracy, and I will forever love Trump for getting in the way.
Wow guys, I am impressed. I think I am too pig headed to ever admit I have changed my mind. I am very happy to read so many "conversions" on this website. I never really thought people changed their mind about politics. But here you are and so enthusiastic about it!
Very sound analysis. Thanks for sharing

Also of interest, in the other direction, is this tweet thread:
https://twitter.com/jpogue1/status/1288871272261328902
This guy gives some good evidence for why it does NOT work. As you'll see in the comments, he does NOT address zinc, and does NOT refute every study at c19study.com. He does however, give some interesting insights.
Good luck with your friend!
In that thread this a response from Scott Adams who explains how the media is misrepresenting and misdirecting the situation. Its a very interesting watch: https://twitter.com/ScottAdamsSays/status/1288910299643273217
BASED.
We have the best immigrants, don't we? Every one of 'em legal, too. Cuz that's what the word immigrant means under U.S. law.
Where is your wife from anyways?
Curious since immigrants tend to vote lefty unless they had to live through the shit that Sanders has been trying to achieve (Cuba, USSR, etc.).
I voted for Hillary.
Another great story!
This is such an important point. When you tell people over and over that the sky is falling, then the sky had better actually fall, or else you lose all credibility.
It's like those crazy religious cults that say "The world will end on Tuesday at 3:37PM". It had damn well better happen, or else the person looks like a fool.
Kinda like how we're told that the plague has returned in the form of COVID but the only people I know who have had it have all been asymptomatic.
The fist and most basic redpill is that the media is blatantly lying to you all the time about everything Trump related. FAKE NEWS!!
All you have to do is do a little research.
That said, not everyone can examine issues with a clear head and change their minds.
Walkaway
This is such an important point. Most of us haven't changed much. We want the basics that are good for our country. It is the other side that has gone off the map.
Exactly.
1960 - JFK “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country “
2016 - Bernie Sanders “America sucks! Free shit for everybody!!”
JFK would be labeled a right wing neo Nazi today.
You want mine? It’s more of a slow redpill rather than an instant conversion
Sure, lay it on us.

I love this expression!
Before meeting and marrying me, my wife campaigned for Obama.... went door to door and did phone calls.
Now when democrats call asking for donations she tells them she isn’t a democrat and is voting for Trump
So I decided to find out what he said by listening to him...and fount that he wasn't a terrible monster...Just politically incorrect, irreverent and funny.
my journey started from there.
1)They have 99% of mass media support (MSM, Hollywood, social media) 2)Federal agencies have been acting suspiciously partisan since the last administration 3)Has a mob of masked thugs that silences opposing opinions (that they claim not to support, yet defend anyways) 4)Imposing restrictions on freedom of speech and gun rights 5)Breeding hysteria in order to further political goals (Global warming, corona virus, mass shootings) 6)Clear hypocrisy (it was okay when Obama caged kids and deported illegals) 7)Fostering notions like blood-guilt (white privilege) 8)Increased socialist policy (increasing one's dependency on the state) 9)Removal of fair elections (DNC rigging, removal of electoral college, vote by mail and stuffing the electorate with illegals) 10)Denial of one's own history (all whites benefited from slavery, Republicans are the party of racists) 11)Control of education (universities)
