This is exactly the kind of shit that I think of immediately whenever someone starts trying to talk to me about getting us an NHS in the States. It's absolutely disgusting, and one of the few things that I really couldn't help getting super heated about when debating with my liberal friends( pre-2016, when we were still sort of allowed to have political discussions). I'd have a couple of examples like this one, from Europe and Canada, and I'd almost invariably get a response of something like, "Yeah that sucks but it really unlikely to happen," and I'd blow up on them. The way they'll pick and choose when "One is too many" and when a tragedy is a statistically rare anomaly that we don't have to worry about drives me nuts, and shit like this? Not rare. Not rare at all. We just usually only hear about it happening with very young children because that's what'll get the most clicks on articles.
