I would have gotten a larger handgun for a first handgun, if you haven't shot much small carry pistols are difficult to learn with. More recoil and smaller grip area.

Go pick up an optic for the rifle and you are good until things calm down.

Yea I was surprised how well the irons on the m&p work. Without having to sight them in I almost could not miss any target on my buddy's home range. Not sure on max distance but i was pleased with the performance.

I saw people saying that about the pistol but I really wanted something that I could carry and didn't want to spend too much more money.

I'll look into some optics on the rifle for sure.

Aimpoints are great. Iron sights are fine, especially as long as you can still see the target, but I'd prefer a red dot sight for close range stuff like in a home invasion scenario.
