My only 'take' on it .. is that when Joel Klein (of the DoJ) slapped Bill Gates around like little miss punching bag, plus also set him up for as many as 40 governors to separately do the same thing, and forced Gates largely out of 'his own' company, and also obtained concessions to look deeeeep inside the parts of MSFT's OSes where they could never go before ..
It's possible that all of that set up something like AT&T's 'red room', but at Microsoft, .. and this deal would put the US at the monitor for TikTok.
It might have offered some protection if Obummer Democrats had not dismantled the laws limiting ownership interests by Chinese nationals. But now Microsoft can make a deal leaving significant ownership in the hands of CCP and even if it’s not a controlling interest it could be from the standpoint of data sharing or intellectual property.
Well Kevin McCarthy is wrong. The app source code will remain the same, meaning China can still spy. Server location is a smokescreen. CCP can still access the data whether it is in US or China -- because the source code.
If Microsoft buys TikTok - actually China wins.
