I'm an old retired Marine that remembers steel helmets and .45 caliber pistols.
The young folks who join today and keep the faith are going to be challenged as never before. I was a seventeen year old wiseacre kid when I joined and I will never, ever forget how great it was to be a Marine when Ronald Reagan was President. SNCOs who had served in Vietnam were my mentors.
I had a tame but honorable career in the Reserves, was called up for OIFI and retired. The young Marines when I retired were first rate. I like to think I handed off the baton as well as I could.
I can only begin to imagine the pressures of constant deployment and the effects of the long years of Obama policies have put on the young Marines today, and those who lead them.
Tell him to never give up and that this old timer is jealous because I will never know what it feels like to be a young, hard charging Marine while Donald Trump is President. Tell him thank you and I'm sure he'll keep the faith.
Never met a Marine, young or old, that I didn't like. I've had the pleasure of meeting several WWII Marines, some KW Marines including one of the Chosin Few, many VN vets all the way up to "The New Breed" (including my Brother) currently serving and many peace time Marines too. (But are Marines ever at peace?) 😉

Just do what you are told. It's that easy. They tell you to keep doing pushups, keep doing pushups till you cant anymore. They cant make you after that. They will turn their back and you think that you can take a breather, but it's a trap. There is another DI you dont see ready to pounce when you stop.
Literally do everything you are told, and you will be fine. Seriously. They tell you to stand on your head and sing camptown races, dont hesitate. They don't let you in on the "why" but you are being programmed and trained to take orders without question. It seems like they are fucking with you, and some DIs probably take it too far from time to time, but following orders in a timely manner saves lives. They dont tell you, because it's not their job to tell you. Just do what you are told, if you don't you are useless in the military framework. That goes for any branch.
Ahhhhhh, getting smoked by doing mountain climbers till your legs dont work anymore and your rack mate has to drag you back. It's a feeling you can only get in Marine Corp boot camp.
Ignore these assholes - He looks like a great and capable kid. I went into the Corps at 17 also. Thank-you for your service to us all by raising a young patriot in times like this - He will be strong and successful. 🙏🇺🇸
