It seems every tv show of the last three decades had at least one episode about some group of crazy militia nutjobs, spouting words like "patriotism" and "liberty" as justification for murder or torture. A ranting lunatic leader spouting concepts like "collectivism vs individuality" and "the government can't be allowed to take our liberty!" or "the tree must be refreshed with the blood of tyrants" and always in as negative a light as possible in direct conflict with the show's protagonists.
They have systematically programmed half the nation to hear our talking points, the founding fathers talking points, as hate-filled violent propaganda. Some of the words like patriotism were successfully kicked out of public discourse because of it. But we're still here trying to convince the other side with arguments they've been trained to ignore as rantings from the tv bad guys.
