74
Modus_Pwninz 74 points ago +74 / -0

Might as well pull your kids out entirely. They're going to be at home staring at a fucking screen anyway - what good is the teacher?

64
stonepony 64 points ago +64 / -0

Without the teacher kids would be learning things like math and science and it would be impossible to brainwash them to think the polar caps will be gone by 2013 if we don't give Al Gore a couple hundred million dollars.

43
Modus_Pwninz 43 points ago +43 / -0

But seriously - every parent should pull their kids out until schools re-open. If everyone did it, the entire public education system would collapse. Every teacher across the country would be making coffee and working registers - which is where they belong at this point.

37
stonepony 37 points ago +37 / -0

Should pull their kids out and keep them out. IMO. And demand states return the taxes (I think our failed schools account for something like 50% of a state's budget).

Homeschooled kids do better and learn faster. They get better jobs and make more money.

18
Modus_Pwninz 18 points ago +18 / -0

I don't even have kids and I still have to pay property taxes, so I don't think that'll be happening anytime ever, lol.

14
WhiskeyAndCoffee 14 points ago +14 / -0

I was home schooled growing up and I'd rather have my daughter-law home schooled, but her mom and I both need to have jobs because of the overpriced demotaxes

12
stonepony 12 points ago +12 / -0

An issue that our country will have to come to terms with one way or another.

Instead of giving your locally assigned no-choice government school $15k per kid, attach that money to the child to be used however. Hell, cut it by 2/3 and give the kid/parent $5k. Solutions will present themselves naturally when the money is on the table for the taking. Someone in your neighborhood will "babysit" for half that $5k per kid.

Detroit is now 50% illiterate. That would change practically over night, and the "schools" would become ghost towns if every kid had a $5k voucher available and all you have to do for it is pass some basic standardized testing.

8
Mexicola1976 8 points ago +9 / -1

A lot of parents are really, really, fucking stupid. There's no way they could effectively homeschool their children- even with tutors.

6
stonepony 6 points ago +7 / -1

And our schools are really really bad and really really over-priced.

Kids can teach themselves with a curriculum and an internet connection and basic standardized testing.

6
JeremiahKassin 6 points ago +6 / -0

And you know what? If a few of those kids fail to learn, then those who are actually motivated will do better in life. It might return us to something closer to a real meritocracy.

4
INK10 4 points ago +4 / -0

For about thirty bucks/month even idiots can homeschool their kids. The lessons are already planned out and printed. Some of the dumbest people I knew growing up were my high school teachers.

0
Mexicola1976 0 points ago +3 / -3

I think you underestimate just how fucking stupid the general populace is- especially certain minority groups

4
Psilocybik 4 points ago +4 / -0

They'll still demand payment, and probably get it because their unions are so in bed with the Democrats. Being a teacher is such an easy job, sorry not sorry. Summer off, like 10 weeks of vacation during the school year, just a fucking joke.

In virtual school my kid was done with her homework within 30 minutes every day. And half the homework was YouTube videos, or poll questions just to make sure you're at least pretending to do the work.

4
FireannDireach 4 points ago +4 / -0

No, they'd be on unemployment making more than they did teaching. (Coffee shops are going under left and right, too.)

7
AndrewLB 7 points ago +7 / -0

teachers are actually getting their full salary.

4
Modus_Pwninz 4 points ago +4 / -0

Federal unemployment benefits are done-zo last I heard. My wife lost her job in early April and has been looking for a new one and she was making about the same as she was working with the federal $600/week, but now she's making far less with just unemployment.

2
pedefromohio 2 points ago +2 / -0

Bongino talks about this - the teacher union, usually politically savvy, is shooting them selves in the foot.

3
INK10 3 points ago +3 / -0

My advice to my daughter. She did the "virtual" bit with her kids because she wasn't prepared to totally homeschool them. Now she is. I expect them to be ready for online university in a year or two. I'm not joking.

3
DeplorableTech 3 points ago +3 / -0

This is a great awakening to the horrible state of our education system. Parents will see the pure indoctrination happening and many middle of the spectrum parents will red pill.

1
The_RedWolf 1 point ago +1 / -0

I told my mom if her my kid sister’s district goes virtual only, to pull her out and put her in one of the free state approved virtual high schools.

I mean if you’re going to do virtual why not go with a more established program that has been doing this longer than 6 months.

For example in Texas, Houston ISD and Huntsville ISD (among a few others) have an established program that’s been around for years and years. They know how to teach kids virtually, it’s not half assed.

Random Town ISD isn’t going to even come close. Don’t get me wrong some teachers try their ass off but it’s best to go with experienced.

Obviously if you can afford a private school or private paid homeschool program, that’s a different story.

This is for those who can’t afford that at the moment

26
TrumpsWall 26 points ago +26 / -0

It’s nothing but horrible. Coming from a long time public school teacher, this is a disaster. People around me are rapidly turning on public schools. At the very least, primary grades need to be live. There’s no substitute for live teaching, especially in primary grades. The unions are literally going along with the DNC to the real harm of our children. This may be the straw that broke public schools. My entire liberal neighborhood is making plans for micro schools and cooperative education. In the long run it may be the best thing that ever happened to this country.

18
PosterIsDead 18 points ago +18 / -0

I'm a teacher with 30 years in. My tone-deaf colleagues are oblivious to the backlash and it's embarrassing.

6
INK10 6 points ago +6 / -0

People can make the primary grades "live" right in their own homes. Teaching your own two or three or however many children is great for the kids. They're not competing with 20 or so other children for the teacher's attention. The real "no child left behind" way to do it.

3
ObiWanJabroni 3 points ago +3 / -0

Even doing research on micro schools. May be in my future career plans. It would be sooooo nice to be free of state regulations

35

Pretty sure those people were the first ones to build immunity against this virus. I guarantee you they're all taking their masks off in the break room, breathing in each other's germ infected oxygen. They're all still alive.

21
AlphaNathan 21 points ago +21 / -0

I do wonder what the scared muh second wave people think happens to those of us that actually come in to the office. Do they think we're all dead, and just magically come back to life for conference calls?

Or are they abusing remote work (spoiler, it's this).

4
The_Bloofy_Bullshark 4 points ago +4 / -0

They closed down the conference rooms on my office campus. Still utilized them. No, masks were not worn. These were the mini 10’x15’ rooms too. Crammed a few of us in. Nobody died.

2
TitoshandmadePatriot 2 points ago +2 / -0

I should have seen an easy 20 people im my department drop dead or severly sick.

no one wears masks we work around some nasty.

yet no ones been sick.

we've even had department meetings in person. crammed into the conference rooms.

no masks.

its like this virus has an off switch so we can do important stuff.

I sub to /r/Teachers to keep up on some stuff with my wife being a teacher. There was a thread these the other day "If you are a science teacher and think COVID is a hoax please resign"

I'm over here thinking, if you're a science teachers, and believe the numbers after they've been inflated due to covid/case funding, false positives, reclassification of death causes, not reporting negative tests and all the other things that have made every single piece of data about covid abso-fucking-lutely useless, then you're the one that needs to resign. You are not qualified to teach science, even to elementary school students.

Here's an idea. If the wuss teachers are afraid to teach because of their co-morbidities (i..e, fatness), and childhood obesity and ADD are already a big problem, and the virus doesn't transmit very well outdoors, let's just put "education" on the back burner for the semester and instead, put students and teachers into a four-month intensive outdoor exercise regime involving rucking, hill sprints, bodyweight exercises and swimming. By the end of 2020, we'll have cured obesity, improved everyone's chances against COVID, and we will kickstart a resurgence in apparel sales when everyone has to buy pants three sizes smaller.

3
Dragofireheart 3 points ago +3 / -0

I expect the narrative to continue beyond Nov 6. They've already scared people out of their minds and those people not going to turn around and say "okay everything is fine now." Plus keeping everything shut down is one way to get back at all the Trump voters (even if the Dems have to suffer).

A commentary published in the journal Pediatrics concludes that children infrequently transmit COVID-19 to each other or to adults and that many schools, provided they follow appropriate social distancing guidelines and take into account rates of transmission in their community, can and should reopen in the fall.

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/07/200710100934.htm

"The data are striking," said Dr. Raszka. "The key takeaway is that children are not driving the pandemic. After six months, we have a wealth of accumulating data showing that children are less likely to become infected and seem less infectious; it is congregating adults who aren't following safety protocols who are responsible for driving the upward curve."

1
INK10 1 point ago +1 / -0

3
fluffmiceter 3 points ago +3 / -0

The thought of virtual pre-k is absolutely horrifying. If any of you have watched or read Jordan Peterson, you know what I’m talking about. Pre-K is essential for socializing kids; with this virtual crap, we’re going to raise a generation of socially inept, depressed, unstable kids. This is irreparable damage if we let this happen.

3
INK10 3 points ago +3 / -0

Hmm, not sure I agree with that. Pre-K has only been a thing for about 30 years. Before that kids socialized with their siblings and neighborhood kids. I know this from my own experience raising children. However, I also know that things have changed. A lot. When I was raising my children, where I lived most of us were stay at home moms. We had time to get our kids together for play time (we didn't have playdates, that would have meant coordinating). Instead they just roamed from yard to yard gathering up friends, playing in every place they could and just generally figuring out to to be a person. So us stay at home moms, nearly the last of our breed, spent time with each other, with our kids, in our churches and community places and raised our children to adulthood without two jobs and huge houses. We were not poor but lived modestly and shared our values. Sorry to see that time disappear.

2
fluffmiceter 2 points ago +2 / -0

Your point is absolutely valid, but I think in many parts of America that type of lifestyle is dead. In many cases, pre-k might be the only chance for socializing. Societal degradation. Daycares and nannies.

Impeachment failed. Covid failed. The race war is failing... Honestly, and I hate to say it - I predicted school shootings to make a comeback in the lead-up to the election(I said this as soon as impeachment failed - even before Covid).

The left only has 3 options left: assassination(not gonna happen), fraud (but y'all are so far over the mark, best they could do is cheat popular vote or flip a couple house seats), and "think of the children!"

They're running out of options, things are about to get desperate... Stay safe out there.
