The founders were heavily inspired by the roman republic. They aspired to create an even better system. In Rome, citizens weren't allowed to carry swords inside the city. This worked great for a couple hundred years, because the Roman military historically camped outside the city. Shortly after the military began marching into the city the Republic fell. Civil wars broke out between the populares and the optimates, and the citizens had no good way to defend themselves.
I realized that the founders of the US likely didn't want that same weakness and was probably one of the reasons the 2A was so important to them. Any thoughts?
Also how about Chicago having the stricted gun control laws in the country and still the highest crime..
