I hate those fucking assholes with a passion. My city has been removing perfectly good car lanes and setting up bike lanes. For what? It's Houston, 90% of people do not bike to work, much less have showering facilities at work. It's all a leftist virtual signal.

We have a crazy lady in town I've had the displeasure to encounter a few times. She's older, dressed head to toe in biking gear and more than likely a leftist. There are bike lanes both directions on the shoulder, the car lanes weren't shrunk. This old bitch rides in the opposite lane, against traffic, right on the fucking white line! As cars approach, she screams, get out of my way, give me room, 3ft you're breaking the law! She's certifiably batshit crazy.

I'm a bicyclist and I'll agree that she's a buffoon.

If there's a bike lane on the road, you ride in it -- 90% of roads don't have them, so when there is one, everybody knows where they have to go; bikes over here, cars over there. And you ride with traffic.

Let me sticking up for cyclists in general, though: those of us who are partially blind and cannot drive need our bicycles, particularly in cities that don't have good transit. Two generations ago we could take the streetcar to work, but the automobile industry ruined that for us.

So what happens is that we have to move to big cities, where everyone is a lunatic leftist busybody and then we become outcasts because of our conservative political views.

I wish I could go live in a small town because I like small town values. But everything there is designed for cars.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but having lived with my eyesight my entire life, I know exactly what is safe and what isn't.

There's a speed above which my 20/50 eyesight stops being enough to ride safely; my estimate is about 15-20 MPH. This is slow enough to be able to react to anything in front of me even though I can't see well more than about 250 feet away.

I'm not trying to start a fight or anything, but your "I know what's best for you" thinking would be horribly totalitarian if held by the wrong person. One of these deranged leftists thinking like you do would be violently accosting cyclists on the road and attacking them just like these mask fanatics are.

I know how to behave safely and how to ride on the roads safely. If you suddenly had eyesight like mine, you might not feel safe, but after several decades of living with it, you would make the necessary adjustments and develop the ability to be safe; believe me.

Many people ride sensibly, I just seem to attract the goofs. More than likely due to my ability to have a sense of awareness about the space I occupy. For example, even in my full size truck, I can turn left without swinging into the far right lane. Heck, back in the old days, huge 3 ton land yachts were able to turn at an intersection simultaneously if they were coming from opposite directions. One guy would turn left into the left lane, one guy would turn right into the right lane. Nowadays the smallest shitbox cars, the guy making the left ends up in the right lane and the guy turning right ends up in the left lane.

People are too preoccupied with their phones today, it was so much easier to drive before the iPhone was released.

About the city and biking. I live rurally, just a few miles outside if a small town. I definitely need to drive to go anywhere, but I've found that once in town, I have no need to leave essentially a 3 mile radius. I could actually have no vehicle and walk everywhere. It's also worth mentioning that there are A LOT of seniors around town and towns similar in the area. It's basically like living in a retirement community, but still plenty of amenities for middle age goofs like me. Add in online ordering and I have no idea why the city attracts older people, unless they're socialites into the museums, plays, etc.
