Smart people compartmentalized 'it' [smart endeavours] from the publics' interference...

Namely, removing politicians from the 'know', which partly led us to where we are now. We as a whole are too stupid to effectively advance ourselves, sometimes smart people have to do it themselves in the garage/basement/secret government facility.
