I made a throw away post to my friends joking about the bear that got "redpilled" the other day, and a guy I know who always talking about being libertarian responds with this:
"thats not a red pill though. trump is fucking trash. supports red flag laws, weapon bans, patriot act, internet censorship, invasion of privacy, he's a self imposed nationalist- nah, he's no better than anything the blue team was going to present."
A little while later another one I know posts:
“"nah, he's no better than anything the blue team was going to present.” And you sir, are incredibly right in this. He was only slightly less shit than what they had to offer in 2016, and looks to be nose to nose in the shit zone this time around as well. So why are we so worked up over people we KNOW are shit? Why do we keep coming back to the same two squads of the same team of monied tyrants expecting anything different? It’s not the fault of Bush, or Obama, or Clinton, or even Trump. It’s our own fault for putting up with any of this shit."
So what's the deal? I thought Libertarians were on our side?
These guys sound like leftists to me..
Nah. They're a bunch of guys who put forth shit candidates year after year and are butthurt that their guys suck at planning and messaging. But they explain it away as everyone else being too stupid to see just how awesome their candidates are.
I registered Libertarian decades ago after reading the platform. The mistake I made was not looking at their candidates first. The majority of them have one plank: "deregulate". They never seem to have a plan as to how that's going to work. And they tend to be extremely unappealing to general voters.
So they can sit and piss and moan all they want about how shitty all the non-Libertarians are, but until they put up a viable candidate with an actual workable plan it's nothing more than empty rhetoric.
That's how they get everyone. That's how they got me! Lol, you could be writing my story. One of my kids(24) came home about 3 years ago telling me he was gonna become a Libertarian. HaHa! Same reasons! Same results!...🐸🇺🇸
Bro! Glad I'm not alone. It's an appealing platform until you realize they have no fucking clue how to implement it. I liken our regulatory structure to a house of cards and they think that pulling a bottom card is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
Plus the number of crazies at the local level is unbelievable. Like they're so desperate for someone to run that they canvas homeless shelters or something. (not that I think 100% of the homeless are crazies, but a hell of a lot of them are)
No, you are not Alone. Yes,many of them are LOONEY TUNED!!.. 🐸🇺🇸
You have to realize that there are different sorts of libertarians, and people who call themselves libertarian who aren't by any traditionally accepted definition. And that many libertarians are idealogically split from the Libertarian Party leadership, especially on immigration. Do Republicans all sound like leftists because one of them is Mitt Romney?
There are a lot of single issue libertarians. Legalized pot being the big one. That is the sole reason they are libertarians. otherwise they would be dems. I also know there are libertarians who want less of everything but are enviro-fascists and would justify the state doing all sorts of things you would never think a libertarian would consider.
I would say they are not seeing the big picture which goes beyond who sits in the White House.
If your friends are mad about Trump, ask them what they think would happen if the Dems manage to control both the House AND the Senate.
Ask them why ZERO libertarians have been elected to any office at any level of government, from local on up. There's not even a libertarian dog catcher. The sole exception is Justin Amash who was elected as a Republican.
While Liberal and Libertarian were once the same, it's the "liberal" word they've redefined. Libertarians are in no way cultural Marxists. Modern day Liberals, however, are. I doubt the majority of them have any inkling that the term Liberal has been redefined and would be horrified by laissez-faire economics - a hallmark of liberalism.
I will go do that. I hadn't run into libertarians turning into leftists. Thanks for the heads up.
