Yup. They just do it for attention. Just like fart-can mufflers on 25-year old Honda Civics.
I own a diesel, btw.
Also: you can totally modify a diesel to put out a LOT of torque and HP and not belch out a single particle of smoke. Smoke means too much fuel and not enough air, which means a sloppy tuner didn't do actual testing and just said: "oh ok, he deleted his dpf, catalytic converter and muffler, so I'll tell the ECU to pump in twice as much fuel and tell the turbo to pump in as much air as possible."
But without a turbo upgrade, the system can't pump in enough air to burn with the flood of diesel now added, and you get unburned fuel: smoke.
It's really no different than tailpipe flames on hot rods in the 50's. Just a rich mixture on the tune for shits and giggles. I can think of more annoying things people do in vehicles, like play with their gay fucking phones.
Some dude the other day made a left onto a road I was going down. I was in my lane and suddenly he was too, coming head on, phone in hand and looking at it. I honk honked. Dude had the audacity to flip out, throw the bird at me a screamed something I couldn't hear. Phones ARE FUCKING CANCER on the road. Driving was so much easier before June 29, 2007.
Very true. Tbh, back in the old days, you could text via T9 without even looking at your phone. But also, I didn’t text as much and rarely did anything but call from my car. Now almost everyone I drive by is looking at their phone. It’s always a bunch of disasters waiting to happen.
They add an engine controller to get more HP than the factory tune, by changing values in the ECU. This allows them to make "fuel maps" and select them for different situations like economy, towing and you guessed it, rolling coal.
It’s always been for trigging a certain..type.. unless I have been mistaken
Well if they all would have been wearing masks...

nope they're specifically designed to trigger Prius and EV drivers, and it's hilarious as fuck
Yeah I never understood why I see it. Usually just some guy waiting at a light and he does it for no reason.
But this here. It’s a pretty damn good reason lol
I think it’s funny because it makes envirofascists so mad
For some reason thought they enjoyed blackface.
Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Sara Silverman...
joyce behr, the cadian "prime minister", the governor of where ever
The same envirofascists who turned downtown portland into a sewer/dump

I’ll have you know that my phone is bi, it likes Apples and Androids.

Xir, Joe absolutely dare you!?
Rolling coal.. only purpose is for triggering lefties. Sounds like you’re a Bernie bro still deprogramming
Who even has time for that?
Lady pede here. Excuse my ignorance, but you imply that he did that on purpose. How does one do that? Asking for a friend.
Modified exhaust system and tuning the fuel mixture. Also, gunning it. For more information suggest googling "how to rolling coal"
Thanks. I checked out Drcm's video link. (But according to comments, that guy got a lot wrong.)
Maybe. I always thought it was a bit silly and wasteful at the very least.

Pretty much what I was thinking. The key is to change the value in the ECU.

not an expert, but i think it has something to do with tunning the fuel mixture on diesel truck,
Thanks! I watched the video. I've never even heard of the expression, 'roll coal,' before. Learn something new every day. :D
