I have a brother (claims to be a sister) that is transitioning. Waited until he was 37, married, and had a kid before coming to this remarkable decision. He has cut off every other member of his family trying to get him to slow down so he doesn't lose his wife and kid. He is now demanding his (straight) wife have a lesbian relationship with him, has undergone hormone treatments, and is waiting for COVID to end to get "bottom surgery". I still talk to him from time to time, but refuse to call him by his new name or his new gender. I just don't refer to him by his name or in the 2nd person and we get along fine over the phone. I want to maintain some relationship with my brother because inevitably he is going to push away everyone in his life and I want him to have someone to talk to so he doesn't kill himself. We've already talked to his wife and offered to take in her and her kid if she needs to bail on him. If this is not a mental illness, I don't know what is.
