What's wrong with kneeling on his neck? If you have to subdue a suspect on the ground, you need to hold him down somehow. IMO it is safer to have a knee on his neck than on his back, especially because you will be more careful with the neck, whereas you may not realize how dangerous kneeling on someone's back can be.

This seems to paint a picture where the cops are trying to subdue a man who was resisting arrest and based on the fact that he's been lying to them all along struggling and trying to get out of custody and the fact that he continued to gasp and talk... that they believed he was fine but simply resisting.
Now its hard to think that Chauvin can't get in some kind of trouble for kneeling on his neck like that but murder 2 is ridiculous and the other officers spending even a moment in jail is fucked. I hope they can sue the city as they will not be able to work as a cop, or maybe anything ever again.
True, but apparently at that time neck kneeling was an official police technique in Minnasota so there is an argument he was following recognised technique and did nothing wrong.

What's wrong with kneeling on his neck? If you have to subdue a suspect on the ground, you need to hold him down somehow. IMO it is safer to have a knee on his neck than on his back, especially because you will be more careful with the neck, whereas you may not realize how dangerous kneeling on someone's back can be.
We'll see but it was pretty brutal to watch knowing how it turns out. I believe the police were basically not doing anything wrong except with that knee, at some point sooner they needed to flip him over and attempt chest compressions.

The only fault I can find here is that they didn’t clear clearly indicate that medical help was coming. But that may just not have been captured in the footage. On the flip side, there must be a law about putting medical staff in harms way when an arrested person is actively resisting

What is pitiful about this situation is that "Can't breathe" was adopted as a protest chant and response to cops after Eric Garner was killed. When that phrase is used repeatedly it becomes impossible to quickly determine what is an evasion response vs. what is a symptom of an actual medical emergency. Floyd didn't die because of the cops, he died in the presence of the cops.
It's a safe bet to say that if someone can talk, they can breathe. I have extensive experience with people trying to choke the shit out of me on the mats. Actually, they are going for a strangulation that doesn't sink and turns into a choke (which is far less effective).
There's certainly a difference between not being able to breath and feeling like you're not getting oxygen, which is what I imagine Floyd was actually experiencing. I've experienced a panic attack before and it certainly feels like you cant breath, no matter how deeply and effectively you are breathing, it still feels like not enough. He was more than likely having a heart attack and I'm no doctor but a heart that's freaking out doesn't pump blood very well, it may even be the part of a heart attack that kills us, again, no doctor.

Around 7 minutes into that video, where he is talking to a bystander saying "I'm not trying to win." he says, "I'll get on the ground, anything."
Again, around 8:00, when he goes through the entire cop vehicle, he says "I'll lay on the ground," which he repeats several times.
I've only seen it once but if I recall he begs for it multiple times.
A person who can't breathe cannot say " I can't breathe"...especially 60 times

He says "I can't breathe" INSIDE THE CAR, at 9:36, saying, "I'm gonna choke, I can't breathe" after saying a slew of other stuff about not being that kind of guy. It's a script he's running, not an actual plea. This is an unfortunate outcome to a VERY reasonable police arrest.
