As an aside, are the cops guilty of anything besides bad optics? They would have known that they were dealing with someone who is high -- they do it all the time. But should they have known that he had taken a dangerous overdose, and rushed to get him medical attention? Would more training have helped? Defunding, obviously, would not.

Here's the truth:
America isn't long for this world. It is going to end because of shit like this. By having its own rules exploited. The irony is that to prevent it you have to start saying that these people have no right to do the shit they do.
That's why tyranny ultimately wins out 100% of the time in the long run: it's not that we like tyrants, it's that when you have a good thing it's only a matter of time before someone figures out how to exploit it and once it's exploited its fate is sealed.
