The red/orange cloud would indicate nitric acid. Rocket propellant. Fireworks warehouse was probably the cover for a propellant factory.

Compare this older fireworks explosion video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_uVqxpFjUc

Now look at this Russian military weapons depot explosion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vK_WDxjhu0Y

This was clearly rocket propellant, definitely could have been a weapons depot.

Normal TNT, for comparison: https://youtu.be/rdHRX7iIAQs?t=207

The Henderson Nevada Pepcon plant explosion was Ammonium Perchlorate, a very potent oxidizer in solid rocket fuel. The second blast in NV looked a lot like what we see here.

Not a nuke. No blinding flash.

Crazy_Musketeer 10 points ago +10 / -0

No way that was a nuke. Look up nuke pictures and video the cloud would be on fire, that was a localized explosion.

Tons of small pops and explosions going off in the cloud before the big boom

This was either a fireworks factory like has been said, or a munitions factory.

The explosion (and the deep red-purple color of the cloud) looks like a pressurized nitrogen explosion. Nitrogen is used in fireworks as a modern substitute for perchlorate.

The air/fuel ratio and pressures involved here are massive.

This is not (gun powder) fireworks.

SBOJ_JOBS 4 points ago +6 / -2

Correct, it is most likely the grain silos next door. They are huge air-fuel bombs. Like our MOAB, but larger.

Whoopies_tds 1 point ago +1 / -0

Nope, there’s a video with an angle showing the fire and explosion to the right of the grain silos. Definitely not the source of the explosion

Military is in the streets with FN-FAL looking rifles.... which seems strange for a fireworks explosion...

Crackersmurf 6 points ago +8 / -2

That was something for a US Naval ship. They just had their little ship demonstration. That was a dry run for a suicide bombing of some sort.

This scenario is highly likely. Possibly an oopsies.

I am wondering, "Lebanon is a major producer of fireworks?" When is their Fourth of July?
I could believe munitions, owing to the scattered small explosion preceding the big boom. Possibly a fire hit a munitions cache and at the same time, a gas source had been breached and reached dilution and found a spark. See the refinery explosions in Houston, BP and Shell. They end up being huge because gas is being released and puddles and finally finds an ignition source.

It would be great if it was.

A nuke or mininuke doesn't smolder and put up a cloud of smoke for several minutes before exploding. This was a burning fire somewhere, most likely near a large source of fuel and the heat of the fire brought the storage of fuel to combust at one time.

2
maleitch 2 points ago +2 / -0

Not even that big? You video game expert explosives need to settle down with the wishcasting. Mushroom cloud does not always equal "mini-nuke". The MOAB cloud was just a big and in fact lasted longer.

I don't know, but I think the fireworks factory in China the blew up was much bigger

I always thought it was a fireworks factory sorry. Anyhow, according to Chinese officials no one died in the explosion...

Lol_Garrus 2 points ago +2 / -0

It wasnt a nuke, that was just water vapor from the shockwave moving faster than sound.

There were definitely fireworks there but also some other explosive chemicals (sodium nitrate? potassium nitrate?)

Looks a lot like tiajin 2015 explosion. the "mushroom cloud" is just the consequence of very humid weather.

Dualkalibur 2 points ago +2 / -0

No emp, no nuke. The fact that cell phones recorded the blast close by(well close enough) and didn’t get destroyed initially told me it was conventional explosive.

2
intobs 2 points ago +4 / -2

Something, material or liquid, got heated to the point of explosion. BLEVE? Orange color can indicate chemicals used or being burned, heated.

2
savman 2 points ago +2 / -0

I can't recall the exact chemical, but authorities said this was a big pile of material that was confiscated from a ship. Fertilizer material of some sort.

Gobberwarts 2 points ago +3 / -1

Pro Tip: Nukes don't require a warm-up period.

1
NdNcenti 1 point ago +3 / -2

Nope, I seen some say it could have been a rocket factory. I can that with HE and fuel present after a fire to preheat the fuel into a nice vapor

Dumdum 1 point ago +2 / -1

First Iran now this. Just a coincidence. Nothing to see here. Please disperse

Sparhawk007 1 point ago +1 / -0

even a mini nuke would have been 10 times that.
