It seems all too easy to do it, but don't go back.
I gave it up long ago when my oldest kid (as a tiny pede) asked me to go outside and pay with her in the backyard once Saturday afternoon. I realized that she (and then her younger brother) were more important that a pack of overpaid assholes on television. So, I went out and did fun and dumb stuff with the kids, instead of sitting around watching sports. We'd always take the time to go to the park, or go to a museum, or go do something dumb like a great big scavenger hunt (I'd take one kid and a car, the wife would take the other and her car - it would always end at a fast-food joint for ice cream and such where we would all compare notes.) One time we drove like 3 hours in the mountains one autumn just to look at the trees changing color and the snow creeping down the mountainsides, stop at various playgrounds at every small town along the way, then drive back for 3 more hours.
Now that they're all grown up and moved out, I have a frig-ton of awesome memories of hikes, building lopsided yard ornaments, camp-outs, gardening, and thousands of other things. Scares the shit out of me at the thought of only having team stats and bullshit watercooler conversations to think back to.
Even if you don't have kids, GTFO of the house and go do cool shit with the wife, GF, or even by yourself. After you turn 50, you'll thank yourself constantly for doing that...
