It's a fantastic idea, considering how many school districts are NOT providing taxpayer-paid-for services. But you're right, it's all virtue-signal because the House will kill it...can't upset their union voters.
Agreed, but the House killing it will be a win for Republican candidates. I have no doubt Trump and the Senate plan to turn this into a top election issue with the way our children's educations are under attack. I hope they push it through quickly and force Pelosi to stall until after the election.
"America's school system has taken parental rights and choice out of the hands of the very people who actually pay for it! It's time to give back to the parents the freedom to choose their children's education.
"That's why I plan to implement Education Reform, including the option for parents to choose home or private schooling and receive the appropriate federal funding that would have been allotted to the public school in that child's name.
Just some numbers. In California recently the cost of education has gone up to 15k per student per year. That would be $195,000 per person to get through K-12, if the costs stayed there. That makes a 30 kid classroom run through $450,000 per year. Many teachers are making 6 figure salaries. And they never stop asking for more funding. And they are trying to keep competition from lawfully existing.
I don’t understand why tax payers have to be on the hook for other people’s kids. I do not have kids. My mom packed me lunch every day that was a sandwich, juice box and a bag of chips. She also woke us up early enough for a bowl of cereal. Oh and she worked.
And our reward? We get called ducking racist and sexist and just down right pieces of shit by people who never had their name on a fucking bill and had to pay it. Fuck that. Part of the reason half our country hates our country is because of public schools.
You do benefit by getting the rest of society to learn reading, writing, and arithmetic. But you are paying $15k per student per year in Ca. After a full K-12 education that's a full $195,000 per student. Totally getting your money's worth!
I'm not defending public schools. Unfortunately its like the welfare state and the webs are so tangled that to abruptly untangle them would he at the detriment if millions of kids, much like the welfare state. There needs to be a broader more systematic approach and i think the first step is school choice and giving parents who don't want to send their children to public schools their tax money back to spend on an education of their choice.

"Make Schools Educate Again!"
This would be so helpful!
Sounds like we should take the house too...
Defund public school
Public school is an unmitigated failure that places students in danger.
If I don't have any kids can I have use the funds to buy guns? I don't see why I don't get to choose the best option that fits my needs, too!
I adore Rand Paul.
This is awesome; albeit I do not have children.
Glorious

Fuck that. I don’t have kids. Boo boo, some poor whore has kids who don’t have their own damn laptop. Get a fucking job.
What if you lost your job and/or wages to Covid restrictions?
