I am so happy that my kids are going to a christian private school because despite the WA recommendation to close schools, they will remain open this fall.. and have kids learn in-school. (Imagine kindergarteners expected to be online all day - what a crock of sh*t)

Anyway... now the karens around me, obviously jealous, started telling me bs like.... "well, i dont know if we can still come over to your house or something because masks only protect you from me... but nothing is protecting me, especially if the kids are in school "

Oh my gosh... im so sick of this scam. Thank you for letting me vent.

Why can't black kids go to private schools?

Is the left saying black people are too poor or too stupid?

Why to they always try to paint racism in such a positive light?

They're disgusting. What they're really saying is they're going to ostracize your kid. They're using your kid's feelings as leverage to get you back in line.

Seems like an absolute win to me. You now have concrete evidence as to which people in your life are toxic enough to use your own child against you and you can proceed with removal.

Taking off your mask always makes them take off theirs.

7
creed 7 points ago +7 / -0

The likelihood of their kid even getting sick, let alone dying, is basically zero.

But they are terrifying their children thinking anyone they meet could kill them.

4
MAGAlikethis 4 points ago +4 / -0

So... basically what facebook did. Except now the division continues through playdates, using social capital as leverage.

There are no known cases of young children infecting adults. But there are cases of children catching it from adults, and it's only in situations where the children were confined within the same home, such as during a quarantine.

The virus dies quickly in children and it doesn't multiply enough to create a viral load big enough to infect others.

26
meteorknife 26 points ago +26 / -0

Teachers are actually safer at schools compared to any other profession since they are only ever working with kids.

And its the same 20-30 every day.

The schools in Oregon are using this study that says young kids have a higher viral load in their nose and throats and therefore may spread it more.

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/07/200730141324.htm

2
yukondave 2 points ago +2 / -0

They also cite the early studies that showed kids giving it to adults, like the Italian study. Only problem with every study that shows that is they did not do any directional blood tests to see who gave to to who.

What Switzerland, Iceland, Germany and Australia have figured out is children get it faster and finish it faster.

Example: Father contracts it at work. Goes home and sees son. Son shows symptoms within 24-48 hours. Father shows symptoms 4 to 14 days later. It was assumed the father got it from the son. We now know from the blood tests that son got it from dad but expressed faster. That is why children dont give it to adults. They express so fast that when they do, they stay home and are well quickly.

Kindergartners on scholarship?

10
Magamom [S] 10 points ago +10 / -0

Well technically i think its my middle schooler who is carrying the weight. My son is gifted and he does really well. (Not that im bragging but I really worked on my kids since they were young. He has a deeper appreciation of school and work because of this covid thing. He cant wait to go back to school.)

We got a 50% scholarship so technically one of them is free.

2
AngryCanary 2 points ago +3 / -1

I was more or less neglected, and the first time I went to school was when I attended college starting at age 14. I was an unintentional experiment in un-schooling. The first time I took a standardized test was when the state mandated it for children who didn't attend formal schooling. I scored in the top 2 percentile in mathematics. That was before I ever took a math class.

You can see why I'm skeptical of the importance of any formal childhood education, especially as studies show the influence of early childhood education on IQ disappears by adulthood. My immediate family includes engineers at SpaceX and Intel with no formal education outside of university. Formal childhood education is all glorified daycare in my opinion.

The cynic in me wants to say that scholarships provided by private schools are a fancy synonym for "customer discount". Discounts are really about sales and customer retention. The obvious question should be, what is the average tuition that parents are actually paying? How many families are paying the advertised price?

I have no question you have bright children, but there's no doubt also that schools would make more money by marking up their tuition by 200% and then giving everyone a 50% discount, telling parents it's because their children are gifted. In truth, most children who are being put in expensive private schools are above average. Most parents who care about their kids education and earn enough money to afford it likely have above average intelligence, and intelligence is heritable.

0
vinnychase 0 points ago +1 / -1

So you studied math privately and then did well or are you saying you're so smart that you innately knew mathematics well enough to score in the 2%?

1
AngryCanary 1 point ago +1 / -0

Math is simply logic with syntax, and It only takes a few hours to learn the syntax. My parents didn't teach me math. My dad (while great at math) was too busy working, while my mom has an elementary understanding of math at best and took a hands-off approach. However, they did buy a series of graded math textbooks. I remember waking up one night at about 2am and working through an entire workbook before morning, representing what the schools would cover in about a year. In my opinion, it takes less than a week to self-study all the required math before pre-algebra.

To clarify, I do believe that arithmetic and algebraic reasoning is innate, and arises from the structure of biological neural networks. The syntax and conventions aren't however, and must be memorized. You have to realize that if your brain wasn't built to understand mathematical reasoning, you almost couldn't function as a rational being. Also, the reason I say "neural networks" as opposed to "brain" is I want to stress that the brain is merely a biological neural network, and every network is different. I have aphantasia, for example, meaning I think entirely non-visually, I lack a "mind's eye" and have no visual experience associated with thought, memory, or anything for that matter. This is a heritable, structural difference which influences cognitive experience in a fundamental way.

Also, as far as being "smart", I think it would be a bit of an oversimplification to call myself "smart". I am very good at creative problem solving, and that's what most people refer to as intelligence. However, most people would also associate things like superior memory as part of intelligence, and I'm definitely worse than average at recalling certain types of information, almost certainly because I lack a visual memory. The visual brain is more efficient at storing at recalling certain types of visual information. I've never gotten a visual IQ question wrong on any test, however there is almost certainly a speed/accuracy trade-off between solving visual problems in the occipital lobe versus wherever visual problem solving takes place in my mind. I think it's a little misleading to measure intelligence in just one dimension. I'm not good at everything, but I do believe I excel in a certain type of intelligence.

Oh you have no idea. One of rules given to them is... kids are allowed to wear face shields because its easier for them.

Face shields are easier for adults I guess so the principal bought a bunch for teachers and staff.

Lo and behold... they were told that while face shields can be used on children, adults cannot wear them. Only masks. Wtf.

YES! Best way. OP with private school should be safe. Watch, once a vaccine is available they start kidnapping kids. Some "event" will happen where kids aren't let out, parents aren't allowed in. Until the whole family is vaccinated. Mass compliance will be achieved, before anybody knows if it is safe or what the dangers are.

This is amazing. My wife and I were just talking about how our whole plan shifted with our oldest son starting school this year! He was set to go public but they came out with some bullshit about only going back 2 days a week and us doing the online stuff the other 3 days...yea fuck that lol my wife and I both work full time. The plan was to save some money every 2 years as our 3 kids entered school starting this year, right?? Now we're sending him to a private Christian school. Theyre back full 5 days! It's worth the tuition, its about the same as we pay for daycare right now anyhow..if it wasn't for gov Dewine he could've gone without a mask too but he's a coward so..just thought I'd share a similar situation

Hello fellow WA resident! We are also doing private school this year for our kindergartner. She is so excited to have a real "first day of school," and so are we! We're buying her all the fun school supplies and back to school clothes lol! Like you, I can't imagine virtual learning for the younger kids. I feel sorry for the public school families who didn't ask for this remote learning nonsense. The districts over here really got people's hopes up by floating a "hybrid" option for the fall, only to quickly dash them with a "just kidding! It's all remote for the fall!" It's horrible. The only silver lining would possibly be that the kids' learning material is (hopefully) able to be monitored in home vs going unchecked in the public school classroom.

I would really imagine healthcare is a hands on experience type of learning. But not in today’s clown world.

I agree - Under 9th grade online/virtual is going to be a waste of time.

Thankfully I got mine into a private school that is based out of a Methodist church (I'm not Methodist, but so be it). It's an expense I wasn't planning on, but an entire year of virtual "learning" for kids under 9th grade is bullshit.

My wife and I considered home school for the past few years (even before we were parents). This whole ordeal made the decision very easy, we're definitely home schooling for the younger years and then if we can get our kid into the charter high school we went to, we'll do that eventually.

3
crimsonfancy 3 points ago +3 / -0

Good for you! Good for all you guys that aren't restricted by ridiculous governors!
My niece and nephew (12th grade and 7th grade) also attend private school. My mom told me that they will be attending school but have to have masks and 64oz of sanitizer as part of school supplies for first day. Imagine these kids keeping masks on!... It's foolish and unnecessary but at least they can attend class and be with their friends and enjoy communal activities together. We're in South Louisiana.

4
Magamom [S] 4 points ago +4 / -0

I think they have to wear masks or face shields too but ill take that over online learning at this point. With washington having 50% literacy rate, ill do anything to get my kids in private. Hey... i do not buy anything for myself... i scrimp on myself to afford tuition.

2
crimsonfancy 2 points ago +2 / -0

I understand. Our family does scrimp too and the kids are prepared to wear the face covering...according to what mom says. I dont know if they have to have certain colors or purchase masks from an approved vendor like uniforms used to be when I was in school. The masks may allow the kids to express themselves through designs and they'll be encouraged by that. Important though that they get back to in-class studying because their parents both work! This fantastic assumption that we can stop our lives because of a political scrap is crazy talk. And I'm not a never-Covider...we're cautious in our family, conservative and we'd much prefer to be just left alone. We also know people that have been affected by the virus and respect the concerns.
I *hate to see my parents living their latest years holed up and not being able to enjoy what they've saved to enjoy for later. At least they're happy providing for grandchildren.

2
Magamom [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

We respect businesses that require it and so yes, we wear it when we go to places. We dont wear it in our car when driving or when were going out to our neighborhood for a walk.

My parents live with us and they work at walmart. At first they were sh*t scared but after so many months and not even 1 case in their store, they started going back to work.

Now my mom is saying this whole thing is bs. Lol
