If Bain Capital didn't buy them what would have happened to the company and all of the rest of those jobs? They already declared bankruptcy. Without vultures there would be roadkill everywhere.
Yeah I'm not exactly outraged by this. Sucks for the 33% but better than a long drawn out death for 100%. Besides, we all know a bunch of people at our jobs that no one is sure what they do--maybe these 33% were lucky to last as long as they did
The people there were on furlough and Virgin Airlines was just in talk with the transpo board (gov) to remain a "full service" airlines, being one of the only 2 in Australia (besides Qantas), aka they got gov assistance and now laying people off at this magnitude.
Also note that they only layoff tigerair despite that airline was profitable before covid because they're tryna avoid paying out accured full compensation for folks there.
Qantas did some layoff but at minimal and had teamed up with Woolworths to help replace lost jobs.
There are a lot more to it than them laying off because of money.
