If you try to explain to them the concept of asymptomatic spread, you get a blank stare of astonishment. And then there are the ones who wear it under their nose and expect it to still do what they think it does, as if covering your mouth provides you with some sort of magical antiviral shield or something even though you're still inhaling and exhaling the same air through your nose.
There was a pretty decent study done a month or so ago and it showed pretty solidly that to assume asymptomatic spreads is not supported. That doesn't mean that it doesn't occur but the rate is so low to be pretty much zero. I don't have a link, sorry.
We were told at the beginning of the pandemic that it was a major problem, but the CDC later pivoted and is now saying asymptomatic spread is only accountable for a small percentage of infections. But we still all have to wear masks regardless of whether or not we feel sick, for some reason.

Asymptomatic spread of viruses is nonsense. Bacteria, et al, absolutely. Viruses either reproduce and cause symptoms or they disappear.
