the 2nd amendment doesn't give you any rights. Your rights are natural, and pre-exist any government. The 2nd amendment restricts the government from infringing on that right.

Rights do not flow from the government. The government is charged with protecting all of your rights, and if they don't, our founding documents give us the right to alter or abolish the government, and institute one that DOES protect our rights.

Those are the facts that the government has left out of our text books.

Bingo. I don't know how we managed to stray so far from our fundamental principles. The brainwashing is real and apparently very effective. Ever since this virus situation started, I keep seeing leftists attempting to explain things. It's usually framed as:

"The government exists to protect its citizens and so sometimes it must take away the people's rights for public safety".

GOVERNMENT IS INSTITUTED AMONG MEN TO SECURE OUR RIGHTS. It does not grant us these rights, and therefore it cannot revoke them. There are concessions we make for living in society, yes, called laws. But fundamentally we are FREE men, and that understanding of human liberty is what makes America the best country in the world.
