You make a good point.

Kinda like how underwear doesn't stop a fart molecule from hitting your nose, so why would a mask stop COVID? ;)

I would love to know the answer to this as well.

The virus can't move on its own. It needs something to carry it into the air...like water molecules. The idea is that with a mask it will 'help' to capture the water molecules the virus 'may' be on. Do masks stop everything...no, not even close. Even N95 masks only work up to 95% if used properly and swapped out very frequently. People touch their masks that 'may' be infected all the time and spread it around. Masks don't work, but 'may help' if used correctly...which almost no one does. So think of it like this... No mask...100% of your breath 'may' push the virus into the air. With a mask...'maybe' 95% of your breath 'may' push the virus into the air.

Net net..if you're over the age of 65, stay home and only go out if needed.

And yes, you can smell a fart from across the room with a mask because it 'may' only stop a very small amount on the persons mouth...gross!
