League, Fortnite, PUBG, all Blizzard games, Ubisoft post 2018, path of exlie, crusader kings/stellaris (Paradox studios), Kakao (black desert online), discord, and on and on
When you spend money on games, make sure you're not giving money to CHY-NA
Tencent owns 40% of Epic. 5% of Blizzard. 5% of Ubisoft. 5% of Paradox. Discord isn't publicly traded and is a US company, though they have taken investment money from Tencent.
Not to mention the EO only covers WeChat and what should be obvious; not every company Tencent has bought a stake in.
Anything that wipes 45 billion dollars of value from Tencent overnight is a victory for gamers everywhere. You forgot to mention they own 100% of Riot.
I understand their investment in other companies is a smaller fraction, what's more insidious is working with publishers to give access to the chinese market, and having the ability to cut off big money from publishers by subsequently denying them access. This is the influence they exert over Activsion/Blizzard despite only owning 5%.
Tencent needs to go away for gaming to be great again, and the way to do it is to NOT buy games from companies that are invovled with Tencent at all, especially the ones where they own a percent of the company.
All of what you said is true and you make great points, but this is a separate issue from what the EO addressed, which is all I was trying to point out.
The OP suggests that this EO will have an effect on gaming, it won't in any way.
For what its worth though, what epic has been doing for indie game development is pretty awesome. They've been handing out grants to companies who have software related to game making that show potential. There has been a lot of money handed out to free and open source softwares that help make it easier for small devs to be able to make a game. As someone who has been trying to learn the game making process for the last 3 years, I am greatful for what they're doing.
Don't forget NetEase and the others too. Tencent is but one head of the CCP hydra. We SAY ditch China but I don't think you guys realize just how tied into gaming they are.
A streamer that's helped me figure out Endless Legend's systems also streams a lot of Stellaris, I was very close to buying it to try it (I loved Sins of a Solar Empire), and then saw it was Paradox.
I hope blizzard goes bankrupt. Corruption and Chinese money have ruined their legendary status among gamers and poisoned their legacy of game design innovation.
I've cumulatively spent hundreds of days worth of play time inside WoW, my friends in that community got me through bullshit in high school and college. I played hearthstone religiously for years.
When they censored that HS pro player for sticking up for Hong Kong, I cancelled my sub, uninstalled all blizzard games, and have never looked back.
When I stopped playing WoW, I had over 500 days on my main, 300 on my primary alt, and various others all down the line totaling more than 1000 days in game. It was basically my only hobby for 10 years.
Agreed. But worried what will happen with Warframe if Tencent buys out parent company Leyou. Will Warframe be banned in US, or will it be demanded that it has a US holding company own/run US servers? If so, the micro transactions will be huge. (Looking at you Activision and EA)
Sadly digital extremes, developer of warframe has no say in what Leyou does. Right now Tencent and Leyou are in a exclusivity agreement where Leyou cannot talk with other bidders, only with Tencent for 3 months. At end of 3 months they can decide to continue/finalize things or back out.
Worry less, my friend. Capitalism is a wonderful thing.
If Warframe dies a sudden and tragic death, there will be other companies making games that are almost identical here in America in the very near future. Your "progress" may be gone, but be realistic. It's all just bytes. There is no real progress, you just enjoy your time in the game. And there are millions of other games even if it doesn't survive and nothing similar is created.
Try a new genre. Try a new publisher. Try something early access that you wouldn't otherwise and see if it pushes your buttons.
Phantasy star online 2 is an action MMO that's developed and published by Sega. Aditionally, there are thousands of indy titles on Steam from small developers that are worth every penny and are uncorrupted by Chinese money. It might be time to diversify your gaming a bit
OP just reading news articles and not understanding. EO only affects WeChat, does not have anything to do with Tencent related to gaming or companies where Tencent owns shares.
Tencent has been buying out our studios and dumbing them down for their market for ages. Wonder why games all feel the same? TENCENT!
THANK YOU PRESIDENT TRUMP FROM GAMERS EVERYWHERE

Just read the order yourself, it isn't very long.

Directly, it won't have an impact on gaming, indirectly, it certainly will. Anything that's bad for Tencent is good for gaming.
It seems like we're in agreement here.

You're not wrong. Epic is a good US company that needs to get clean and let go of the CCP-bux
Don't forget NetEase and the others too. Tencent is but one head of the CCP hydra. We SAY ditch China but I don't think you guys realize just how tied into gaming they are.
If this EO means that League dies a horrible death, he will be the greatest world leader since Hammurabi
Crusader kings, too? Fuck. I loved exiling the Jews for 300 gold!!
Fuck do they really have tentacles in paradox? Stellaris and CK2 are some of my all time favorites...
Hehe see my comment below
A streamer that's helped me figure out Endless Legend's systems also streams a lot of Stellaris, I was very close to buying it to try it (I loved Sins of a Solar Empire), and then saw it was Paradox.
NOPE.
Fuck yeah!
I hope blizzard goes bankrupt. Corruption and Chinese money have ruined their legendary status among gamers and poisoned their legacy of game design innovation.
FUCK AROUND AND FIND OUT
I remember the days when Blizzard was a company that could do no wrong by their fans. How the mighty have fallen.
I've cumulatively spent hundreds of days worth of play time inside WoW, my friends in that community got me through bullshit in high school and college. I played hearthstone religiously for years.

And I have no regrets.
FUCK CHYNA
Same. I still bave SC1 on cd.
Seriously, man, it's heartbreaking.
Blizzard used to be the symbol of quality, polish, and customer care.
Now they're just...ugh.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

They've got 45 days to figure it out. It's their fucking problem for taking CCP money to dumb down their product.
Do you want skeletons in your games?
Do you want blood?
Do you want meaningful stories?
Then you don't want CCP influence in our studios.
Don't worry, there are American-funded games that will take their place. Just need to crack the back of the beast.

May I recommend Satisfactory or Shipbreaker?
Hell there are Paragon clones floating around that look really good so far...

"You wanna play a game?"
Ya sure?
