Today my college sent out its list of coronavirus restrictions. Some are fairly reasonable, but some are so utterly retarded that I thought y'all would appreciate them.
1: Masks are mandatory EVERYWHERE. Like, if I'm alone by myself outside taking a jog, I can still be punished for not wearing a mask. Here's a quote: "Do I have to wear a mask? Yes. Absolutely. All the time. Everywhere. Yes." Don't ya just love the enthusiasm?
2: All students have to fill out a daily health form to be allowed to take classes. I have to tell the school my temperature, if I've felt any symptoms, where I've gone, who I've been with, etc. I have to do this to be allowed into class.
3: All athletic competitions are cancelled for the season. I was gonna go into college athletics, but this told me that I shouldn't. Honestly, I'm glad I got out, they were probably gonna make us wear masks while practicing, wouldn't that be fun.
4: It is implied that once a vaccine comes out, taking it will be mandatory. This wasn't fully stated, but it was pretty clear the message they were getting across. Basically, they said that once the student body had been vaccinated, we would be allowed to act like normal human beings again. But not before! Couldn't let those stupid kids kill each other with a disease that has a 99.98% survival rate.

If you're not getting a stem degree you're just wasting your parents money or accumulating life altering debt.
And if you are, you should invest in certification instead, then put in some job applications and see how much major tech companies are willing to pay you vs. how much you would pay a university, and then do a little math.

Well technically I got a free ride (ACTs and SATs are actually pretty useful) but still I get your point. If I knew about this earlier I would never come here but it's kinda late now. I'll sit it out and switch when it's more convenient.

curious what trade did you go into after getting your BSc? I've got my BS (comp sci) but have found software development pretty unsatisfying tbh and have been considering the electrician route.
Also curious if you have pointers. Similar to the other person who responded to this, I'm also not happy with my career, always wanted to do a trade but the advice I always got was "unless you can get into a union, which you basically have to know someone to get in, you won't be able to get a career in a trade." It was essentially "you need to apprentice and the only place to apprentice are highly competitive unions where you won't be able to get in if you don't know someone."
Time for lawsuits. Post the college and email without revealing personal info. These fuckers deserve to get spat on by the public.
That mandatory vaccine would have been a dealbreaker for me when I was in school... There has to be a market for a college that's not overrun with liberal bullshit, right? We'd probably have some of the best professors out there as well, as they'd be people with experience making something of themselves in the actual real world rather than living in the safe space that is academia.

1, 2, and 3 suck, but plenty of colleges and universities are doing similar things. 4 is bullshit. They can't make you take a vaccine, but I believe they can legally make vaccine records a requirement for enrollment. Get together with some of your buddies and write a letter to leadership about it - if they get enough pressure, they'll drop the vaccine requirement. We can hope, anyway.
The same might work for 1. No one bicycling, skateboarding, running, or doing any sort of workout outside should have to wear a mask.

I get that this is all complete bullshit. But really, how are they really going to punish you if you go outside without a mask? I get that you might get mask shamed or whatever, but what could the consequences of this possibly be for gentle non-compliance?
They want to teach you what life in the USSR was like.
If you have the money to go there Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is still based. But the degrees they offer are kind of limited if aviation isn't your field.
Also, you pretty much NEED to be a veteran to afford to go there--so most the students are former military.
