I think many of us are astonished by the abolishment of freedom of speech in the United States. People are either being outright prosecuted for speech or sued into oblivion. Our nation collectively is no longer recognizable as a bastion of freedom.

  • Montana: in 2015 there was a disturbing criminal case wherein it was revealed that Montana has a ridiculously broad defamation statute that can be used to bypass the First Amendment. This facilitated the prosecution of a man was who made disparaging remarks about Jews on Twitter. (see https://reason.com/2015/06/05/montana-hate-speech-case/)

  • California: just recently it was revealed that a man had his Second Amendment right violated due to thought or pre-crime speech due to having the wrong opinion. (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IREP3R1zpY8)

These examples continue around the nation and begs the question: what states have the tightest and most protective measures for upholding Freedom of Speech?
