It's a deferral. You have to pay the money back. Think of it as a 0% interest loan.

Don't go crazy spending it on luxuries and then find yourself broke at tax time.

You are right, but it will create tremendous pressure on Congress to forgive in any further Coronavirus package. Also republicans can run on the “elect republicans if you want the taxes forgiven” platform.

It’s a win.

Americans can't save for shit as is. Half of America probably won't even notice. Just think their check is extra for some reason.

Will it be? Does this automatically affect my withholdings?

Yeah I totally believe this is the endgame. Trump has been wanting payroll tax cuts forever and this will be his DACA.

I do think the past week of events is unprecedented. But if it took years for Obamacare to be ruled unconstitutional, wtf let’s see how far we can push executive orders

In before Trump actually achieves elimination of payroll taxes, through congress and everything, passing it into law, and then John Roberts rules tax reduction unconstitutional with some twisted logic.

What is the endgame though? How would social security and Medicare get funded? Boomers are a huge voting base, they won’t be happy seeing their retirement income going away.

This. There's a 2-pronged (or if you will, 2-hollowed fang) attack to this. Defer payroll tax through end of year, pass forgiveness in the next measure.

You can set up automatic savings probably most bank accounts to direct a % of a deposit into your savings. I have 15% of any deposit over 100$ going into my savings account, so just a good general life tip, do something like that and save anyway.

1$ is worth investing. I accidentally left 80 cents in a GoPro stock. Up to 25$ now

Shit I didn't know you can do that.
Edit: Fucking A. You can. For tax purposes this would make life a bit easier.

So fucking nice for them to loan us our own damn money so that we can house and feed our families .. after shutting us out of our livelihoods.

Yeah this. But so many people will ignore you and face going broke to pay their taxes that it will cause a boog, and then Donald Trump will become GEOTUS forever.
