Why would you listen to a law saying you can't bring ammo from out of state? Go to a gun store, get some ammo, the only risk is being caught on the way back home but if you're in Cali, just say you paid cash and threw out the receipt (do that anyway). Once you have it nobody will know and will never find out really.
CA resident here, I just took a road trip to Utah/Idaho/Wyoming and man, stopping at different gun shops I felt like a mix between a kid at Disnyland and William Wallace screaming "FREEEEEEEDDDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMM!!!!!"
