You are right, but it will create tremendous pressure on Congress to forgive in any further Coronavirus package. Also republicans can run on the “elect republicans if you want the taxes forgiven” platform.
It legal and technically does but if the employer has set up or written your salary contract in a way where it's essentially invisible (mine did) they get the benefit, not me. Now, public pressure is a bitch and might motivate them to change. Which is good.
I do think the past week of events is unprecedented. But if it took years for Obamacare to be ruled unconstitutional, wtf let’s see how far we can push executive orders
In before Trump actually achieves elimination of payroll taxes, through congress and everything, passing it into law, and then John Roberts rules tax reduction unconstitutional with some twisted logic.
What is the endgame though? How would social security and Medicare get funded? Boomers are a huge voting base, they won’t be happy seeing their retirement income going away.
This. There's a 2-pronged (or if you will, 2-hollowed fang) attack to this. Defer payroll tax through end of year, pass forgiveness in the next measure.

It’s a win.
unstumpable
Why try? Just relax and enjoy the freedomsssss
Americans can't save for shit as is. Half of America probably won't even notice. Just think their check is extra for some reason.
Will it be? Does this automatically affect my withholdings?

Yeah I totally believe this is the endgame. Trump has been wanting payroll tax cuts forever and this will be his DACA.
