It's pretty obvious from the upvote ratio of the HOT section vs NEW that in general, people are obviously ignoring NEW.
If you want more and quality content, you should give everyone a fair shake and read (AND UPVOTE) the NEW section at least once a day.

What is this "hot" you speak of?
I look at Hot to see what I missed, then check rising to see what's cooking, then I hit new to get those posts sizzling! Repeat Every few hours.
When the site was smaller "Hot" would still change fairly frequently throughout the day. Now I am seeing a lot of the same posts hang around for several days it seems.
NOT that I am upset about the growth by any means, I just wonder if there is some way to tweak the formula as our pop grows to make sure 'hot' stays 'fresh.'
That being said, yeah, I now typically click New and Rising every time I sign in, so maybe it doesn't matter and I'm just talking out my ass.
Reddit actually had the same problem.

I feel like the front page in general needs to be much faster, or have some feature to cycle it through more.
It's like you either get a sticky, or you get 12 upvotes and that's it.
It does make for a good shill filter, since lefties are so lazy they don't bother sorting through /new.
Been a guy who views "New" by default, but I understand that through most behaviors people are going to click on what's already getting the most traffic.

I usually go by Rising, fast changing, higher quality volume. I should go to New more.
New is so fast.
I wake up, grab my phone, plop on the bowl and read hot first and new second so I can be updated on everything that happened overnight. Then my wife bangs in the door and yells "how long are you going to stay in there"? I smile.......
Try top (hourly) too. It has some newer stuff than rising.
Rising is pretty spicy too.

Btw: also check top once in a while. The upvotes are headed to the stratosphere lately. We must be picking up new members at an insane rate

I literaly only reply and upvote posts and comments nearly a day old. I know not many else do because I never get replies/upvotes. I think all the upvotes I do have are from like two comments I made once in the "HOT" section.
