Yeah I think “stranger things” was originally supposed to be called “Montauk” and was also supposed to be filmed there. There used to be a nuclear reactor there (off the coast of Long Island), so there have always been urban myths of people finding like fallout style mutated monsters there and crap like that. Look up the “montauk monster”. It’s pretty funny.

I sailed from there to LBI much in the 70's. Saw lots of mutated critters around the nuclear reactors.
