The problem with this is that you are hurting the kids, not the parents or the school. Libraries benefit the whole community, and are sometimes the only way families have access to books or computers. There is a middle ground between communist “give me everything free” and feral “fend for yourself” anarchy, and somewhere in that middle is a neighborhood school and a community library, and a safety net for the worst off. Do you think a child deserves to be hungry or denied access to books or technology just because their dad is an absent piece of shit and their mom is ignorant and lazy? Of course, the best way would be birth control or abstinence, and some would argue for abortion. The “crotch spawn” as you put it still arrive though. Is it better to let them suffer, or pay a few mils into the community so they can get something to eat? I have mixed feelings on why all of this should be a public school problem, but here we are. Compassion is not communism.

Couldn't agree more, i personally don't use the Public Library but have ZERO issue helping pay for it because it does have benefits for those less fortunate

There are plenty of charitable private organizations. You're making the same type of argument the NPR/PBS defenders make, as well as Planned Parenthood. "We can't survive without government funding." Libraries are quickly becoming video rental stores and public bathrooms for the homeless. If they're such an asset at this point, let them find benefactors to support them. I like libraries. But I can't see why they can't find a way to survive on their own. You want to give them tax breaks? OK. But why should the community be supporting everything from top to bottom that fewer people are using anymore?

I do agree that many (most) things should be privately funded, and I don’t think public schools should be providing food, psychological and medical services, etc. But that is the system in place, for now, and I guess what I’m saying is that I would rather have my taxes stay local for those services and work to change things from there. I vote in every election, and some millage rates I vote yes, some I vote no. There’s a lot of room for reform, without shredding the safety net. Just my opinion.

Yes I think if you bring a child into the world you should have to feed the thing and pay for its schooling . Libraries are fucking nonsense because everything is online and the only people using the library these days are children playing minecraft and bums looking at porno . I only care about my children . Joggers / illegals can starve for all I care . If you're so big into the community thing how about you take a few poors into you house and pay for everything they need

You must live in a shitty community. Our library is fantastic and offers lots of activities for infant - teens (no drag queen bullshit either). They also have book clubs, computer classes for seniors, and English conversation classes. I am in a small town, mostly white, and most of the kids qualify for free/reduced lunch, so mostly poor as well. Your argument is the same deflection that the pro abortion people put out... why not adopt all the unwanted kids? Why just not begrudge a kid a fucking sandwich or a story time at the library if it means they have a chance of doing better than their fucked up families? I put my family first, and always will, but supporting my own town with time or money when I can benefits my family as well. I generally believe what goes around comes around, and I try to live in a way that is kind but not naive or stupid. It works for me, and obviously you are doing what works for you.

"I am in a small town, mostly white..." Yep. There is the difference right there.

I owe no one's kid a sandwich nor do I owe some old lady a PowerPoint class . Everything you can do at a library is available online for free

No, we don’t owe anyone anything, really. But contributing to help people who are my neighbors doesn’t bother me. We disagree on libraries, probably based on our personal experiences with them, which seem very different. I guess this is why everyone needs to be involved locally, although most people aren’t.
