Here in California, $400 is not even minimum wage. Assuming that you work 8 hours/day and 5 days/week, it would come out to only 83%. Minimum wage is the least amount of salary someone can earn(obviously), so adding a cap of 80% would either imply more money should be given out, or it would just be redundant.

Or better yet, we could just let people go back to work and earn it for themselves

CA unemployment calculator says the the normal compensation from the state is $260 per week if you were working full time at minimum wage ($13) so you add 400 to that and end up with $660 per week. That's $16.50/hr and still 27% more than you would make working.

Ah, I forgot to factor in the regular unemployment compensation you can get. Yeah you're right on this one
