My only hope is that when the frothing vitriol has faded a few years after his second term, the media and academia will start looking at him more objectively and realize the good he's done. Far fetched but it's a nice dream.

No so far fetched. There will always be another Republican they need to demonize as the worst ever.

They called George W. Bush every terrible thing in the book, including Hitler. They wrote assassination fantasies about him. Now they love George W and all of the Bushes. No doubt they’ll praise Trump at some point to make the next guy look like a monster.
