Yeah, but even peer review has become largely junk. There are numerous cases of mathematicians moving away from posting their papers in journals or becoming completely disenchanted with the process and I'm sure this is happening in other fields.
I do think we're slowly moving towards decentralized learning even in the hard sciences.
