Nascar has been going down hill wayyyy before this crap. I didn't like it when they moved to fuel injection ( not a huge problem but I didn't like it. That's more a personal thing than a big problem ). Then Micheal waltrip, OMG, what a faggot. Does nothing but talk and talk and talk. Unbearable cunt. Then they keep changing the rules for the chase and each time it makes less sense. Then banning the Confederate flag ( you ain't gotta like it but you got no right to tell others what they can and can't wear or fly on their OWN vehicles. Besides, Nascar was born from bootlegger hillbillies and that was pretty much the flag they flew ). And now we get to the pandering. Insufferable. "Look at Danica Patrick! A woman driver! Look, a woman driver!". Ok, we get it, a lady is racing in Nascar. But she was still a shitty driver, no need to slobber all over yourself. Then comes Bubba Smollett. Noose attack! All of Nascar gets behind this guy to support him, then it turns out, he's just an idiot who wanted to see racism where it wasn't. And yet they didn't apologize to all the people they accused of being "sympathetic to racism" or "unwilling to see racism".
I was a lifelong Nascar fan. I have a cabinet FULL of Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt stuff. And now to see what it has become...is a real kick in the head. I just wanted them to race. Just race, that's all. I didn't care WHO was racing just as long as it stuck to RACING. Thanks for killing the sport assholes. Now your fan base hates you and the left ( who would never watch you no matter what you did ) hates you still. Congrats, you played yourself.
I use to hate Carl Edwards. Then when the newer racers started coming in and he was considered a veteran driver I started liking him more. That might be because I hated all the newer drivers though.
I think we ALL hated Jeff Gordon lol. I can't remember a single person I knew who liked him except my aunt. Everybody else hated him. Hell hating drivers and watching them crash was almost as good as seeing your favorite driver win. Ahhh, the good ol days.
Died doing what he loved. Then I remember when Dale jr brought back the Wrangler 3 car for a race and "won". I said it then and I'll say it again, they let him win that race to try and push ratings. Then they let Austin Dillion bring back the 3 and that was, in my opinion, another dishonor. That number should have never come out of retirement.
And Richard Petty's 43 should have been retired as well. I don't know what happened to him In his older age but he has a terrible racing team. He has brought disgrace to himself now. I hate to see the Petty brand ruined by losers who can't drive or win. Almost like he just wants a car in the race but doesn't care if he wins or not, just as long as they don't have to repair the car.
Sorry to hear about your aunt. And yea, I'm pissed at Nascar. But it's been a long time coming and instead of correcting course they doubled down on stupid.
If I ran Nascar, my first priority would be to get the fan's back in the seats. I would do a throw-back race season. Everybody would get the old school muscle car bodies to race. Lower the ticket prices for the season to get the people back into the sport. I would dump the ESPN exclusive races and put them ALL on the regular networks for maximum coverage. And I would change the chase rules again.
I like the nationwide bodies. They have the muscle car bodies ( except Toyota, they got some other body, a Camry I think? ). The mustang and Camaro bodies look wayyyy better.
She's watching the greatest drivers race in heaven with my dad somewhere in the crowd with her. Hell maybe they're racing the greats too. I don't know how heaven works but this is what I like to think:)
The Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. Not the Confederate flag. It's important to be accurate in our naming here. Because this specific flag was the flag of a man who defended his home land regardless of which side of the nation it sided with, and though he was on the "wrong side" he was in fact glad that slavery ended and even said that the abolition of slavery made the war worth it.
The actual "Flag of the Confederate States of America" can get fucked sideways a hundred thousand times in flag hell. It's the flag of Democrats who would destroy a nation in order to own human beings. But General Lee's Battle Flag is about being stuck in a shit situation and putting the people most important to you first.
Your right about the battle flag not being the actual Confederate flag, it's widely misrepresented and labeled wrong ( I do it too, as I just did above. Kinda like people call the AR an "assualt rifle* when in fact it's an "Arma-lite rifle". Common misconception. Sometimes we forget but it is important to call it by it's PROPER name. Thanks for the reminder ). And as far as I know the battle flag was the only one of the Confederate flags flown at Nascar and other southern themed events. It's rooted in NASCAR's history, apart of its culture and founding. They really stepped on their fan base when they banned it.
They stepped on anyone with more knowledge of the Civil War than "Slavery Bad." There's so much nuance to the various horrors and failings of all of America surrounding the civil war, that we all need to learn from. Nobody does, anymore. When you focus on "Slavery was Bad. Then we Stopped it. Good Ending," we neglect the huge blow to all of the powers of the states that would have prevented this horrible situation we have today. Was ending such a monstrous evil something we needed to do? Yes, it was. The original Founders wanted it done even sooner, as soon as was possible. Was leaving the gaping, bleeding wound in our constitution worth it? That's the problem. Because with the murder of Lincoln, and the failure to reinforce the rights of the States which legitimately can only spring from the rights of the individual, although the institution of slavery, which is to say a subservient race supporting the party of oppression, is gone, the SPIRIT of slavery is stronger than ever, as now a much, much larger population STILL supports the party of oppression, only now they do it WILLINGLY, as they cover their eyes and ears with their own hands, in exchange for a life of poverty and ignorance.
And that's why they want to remove General Lee's battle flag. Because learning the history of that ONE FLAG requires you to learn the facts that people on the side of the Confederacy were Americans caught in a shit situation who maybe saw what they thought was a greater danger, hiding in the shadow of an admittedly virtuous premise.
Very well put. When I went to school ( N.C, A SOUTHERN STATE ) we did reports on the civil war and it was just what you said it was, "slavery bad"and nothing else. They never mention the political party that sided with each other. They never mention the laws put in place leading up to the civil war and after. They never mention that some northern states held slaves legally while restrictions were imposed on the south. It was a one sided shot at the whole war. Our argument ( those of us who paid attention, at least the best we could with the shitty education system we had ) was always states rights, even though the state was making a huge mistake at the time. The federal government stepped in to put down insurrection and re-establish the union, but failed to give back the rights of the states. That war arguably did more damage to our Republic than probably any other action Imo. It has only gotten worse since those days, as more and more states lose power to an overreaching government. I partly blame the education system for failing our youth but then you have to account for the lazy youth that doesn't care or want to learn. Just go to school, make it through and get outta there.

Lol, the dick pill driver.

The sad thing is that they infiltrated it to destroy it because it does have a authentic American cultural history.
They all sold out. Not sure for what or what price but they definitely took a 180 on their fan base. Or took a "left turn" So to speak.
It's like a plague of locusts that instead of devouring the crops, tricks the farmer into burning them.
Let it destroy itself. From its ashes a better version will come.
NASCAR died with Dale Earnhardt.
Confederate flag ban and Bubba Smollett was the double-tap that put down NASCAR’s shambling corpse.

My aunt was a huge fan (rest her soul). She’d be out of her mind right now. Unreal

It should be based on production cars. Way more interesting that way.
